I don't know how you truckers do it. It sounds like parking is difficult to find and getting worse and the corporations who benefit from the world of warehousing in trucks making billlions of dollars can't let you stay on their property or even use their facilities. What is wrong with this picture?

A lot places right smack in city limits have very little parking to begin with and some are open only at certain times.Don't know about this piticular facility though. Then there are customers that have a big enough lot that could allow trk parking but their policy says no.Far as I know every Walmart DC is like that and can't check in no earlier then an hour before your appt time.Something needs to turn around for the sake of the drivers safety.

You're talking corporate America, which I'm not sure if you've noticed, have literally said "SCREW THE PEOPLE". Especially in Walmart's case when it comes to delivering at their facilities. Insane appointment times at all hours, minimum of 2 hours, and NO PARKING many times anywhere around a DC. Then you have the northeast and the Midwest (Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, etc) with many trucks going in and pitiful amounts of parking. This is a story, that doesn't happen often. Many drivers are not killed waiting to be loaded/unloaded/parking for the night. What does happen more is what we don't hear about. Robberies, strong arm robberies, vandalism, assaults, and even rapes in some cases. You don't hear those stories, as they generally don't make it past the local news. People talk strikes all the time, but one of the things we really need to get together for is safe parking. Because of the way gun laws are set up, it's almost impossible to carry legally. Because of the way corporations have decided that we are less than human, many times not even providing a bathroom while on their property, I mean the list goes on and on. It's really time the industry as a whole took a stand against these practices and really looked in the mirror and started reporting the "drivers" that destroy safe parking for us.

here's an idea i would be more then willing to participate in ...

something they have done for hundreds of years literally ...

if a group of trucks are parked in what could be a potentially bad area of town... doesn't matter where you are ... it's the fact that all of you are park together...

it would not take much time to put together a few number of drivers who would be willing to take shifts through the night and keep watch on the rest ...

I know myself as most of you seasoned drivers also go through this ... i sleep about 4 hours and i am up ...

i would be willing to take an hour and get out and just walk the lot/area ... how simple would it be to take an hour out of the night and keep an eye on each other...

i know this driver in Detroit was probably alone on the side of the road close to the plant he was to pick up at ... different situation to what i am talking about ...

but it comes down to staying alive and making it back to our loved ones ...

Jason's law has pretty much stalled ... as far as I can see... maybe some small improvements ... but nothing noticeable...

it comes down to this ... we will need to take this matter into our own hands before any good laws would ever help protect us out on the road

Where's the media attention, politicians pushing for laws to protect us and the ATA to demand we have safer places to park? Oh yeah, they DON'T CARE!!!!

Anyone who knows Dtown knows about the John Kronk area and the South West side - I would feel safer delivering in Brooklyn NY.

In and out - Not a place to stop (especially that truck stop on Wyoming and Michigan), unless you're into hard vice.
