Straight talk from your experiance is all anyone can ask. I think you just helped make a decision. I was headed for usxpress, but need miles like all here. What you are telling me is as you say, not enough to pay the bills.

ive kept it real to this point, so no point in stopping LOL. im beginning month 4 with USX and i wanted to share. miles have slowed down tremendously, i think thats standard for all the companies this time of year. one recurring problem is sitting for long times waiting for my next load, to find its only 200-300miles grrrrrr! Loooonnnnggg waits at the shipper and consignee have become more common. Breakdown is pretty good, fuel dept is pretty good. Getting your FM on the phone is pretty difficult, and not very personal once you do get them on the phone.

I work for Trans Am for a noobie 2500 to 3000 a week and for an experienced driver it's a crap shoot! -
A good company does not need to call you many times to try to get you to work for them. USX does becuase they suck for many who go to work there.
Former USX driver 1998-2004 -
Its not hard to make a call to your destination for directions or your customer service and get them to bring up google maps and walk you through directions as you go along, which ive done a time or two. Ive also stopped by local gas stations and asked for directions. As for the low miles by the end of my second month i was running between 2600-3100 miles same time of year as you. If im going to be unloaded soon im getting a hold of someone, anyone, and asking them for a load somewhere. You need to plan way ahead about how you want your day to run and how you will start your next day and run accordingly. And yes they are most definitly concerned if you are going to be late and cant find your destination, you have to let them know and they will help you out, dont wait for them to ask you if you need help.
Like another driver posted, you have to learn the system and make it work for you. Sometimes you have to do some work to get what you want. -
I worked for USX for 6 1/2 years and knew their system well and it boiled down to 5 factors to get miles.
1. Run when they needed you to run, not when your log book said you had hours or were ready to drive. 2 Be willing to run a lot in the NE part of the country 3. Putting in all your macro's like clock work but not depending on that to get you rolling again. 4.Have a good phone plan and make lots of phone calls to various company employees to get miles and get home . 5. Be willing to do lots of unpaid work and drayage loads and throw your log in the bunk when doing them.
Being from Ohio I have no doubt that you have a easier time then a lot of USX drivers getting miles. In my time at USX it seemed like half my loads either went to or originated from there until I went west regional. But even you will find out that sooner or later you will have to do more and more work to get the same miles and pay because no matter how many raises you get, they will keep your income around the same each year. And you will have to do lots of phone work to get paid what you are owed also.
There are much better and more honest company's out there with easier ways to get the miles you need then USX. I would only suggest them to work for if your options are limited. -
I am just curious.
US Express on their website states that they pay you layover pay, detention pay, stop/pickup pay & load/unload pay. A lot of companies I have researched do not pay most of those, and if they do its not this much.
I greatly appreciate the info you are sharing. What I am actually curious about though is your weekly average Net Pay. I hope you don't mind me asking. I have actually thought about going with them and would like to have something to go on.
