This is the most common excuse of them all. Life just always seems to get in the way. I might not walk out the door at 7:00 am like you but I put in the same long 14 hour days everyone else in this profession does but since this is a relatively seditary job I never seem to need more than 6 hours of sleep and am always able to find the time to fit in a 20 minute workout before bed. I also eat the same 3000 calories per day that most of you consume but still able to keep my body fat levels low enough to see my abs at 240 lbs. Everyone can find time for things like exercise in our lol busy life.
Why don't you exercise ?

Both 0-1 year experience. Both young bucks not in the business long enough to know. Hopefully it won't catch up with you. I'm far from lazy, I played football and wrestled in HS, was in the military and had a very active lifestyle. Why do you think there is such an over abundance of overweight truck drivers? Is it the job lazy people seek or is it possibly the lifestyle that can slowly put you in that trap? Again it took me 12 years to put on weight. My thyroid dying didn't help but I blame it on the job. Sure there are lazy ones out there, then there are the one's that were just like you both that fall in the fast food rut. Things are changing as far as how drivers use to run. That too is hard on one's health as far as no steady sleep schedule. Post back in 10-15 years. If I'm still around I'll be able to tell you "I told you so". Then you'll say "I understand now".

I'm not overweight not even close,im just too lazy to exercise.I do tease my boyfriend though every day when making him lunch. He eats too much. Its like hes a walking garbage can that never gets full. But everyone can use exercise to get toned and stay healthy.

Funny; as if my experience trucking has any bearing on my experience with a healthy lifestyle. Don't schedule in 20min of high intensity cardio 3x a week if you don't like, but pay the Piper later... again, just a choice...

Who says I don't??? You can't say ALL truckers are in horrible shape. Who are you to judge???
Now after that rant...im in shape...round is a shape -
1 year or 20 years, its simply a choice... If you wanna commit to working out 20 minutes a day 3 times a week or if you want to make up excuses... Doesn't matter about knowing the business... stop making excuses... -
I dont think you have to be a workout freak... I just enjoy being in shape... I am 50 years old.. I want to keep my joints moving freely, my organs functioning well... I learned over the years.. that I prefer to eat and be healthy more than I enjoyed the brief enjoyment of eating junk food...
I dont think it is the job or the industry that forces drivers to be out of shape... I see them in orientaion and they are already out of shape.. I am not talking about just being over weight.. I have seen some healthy people who were over weight... and I have seen some thin ones in poor health...
Why does the OP care.... probably for the same reason many do... you are thinking of becoming a truck driver.. so you start to notice truck drivers more... and you notice a lot of them our very out of shape... and you wonder why... why are ojt of shape people drawn to truck driving... did they start off in shape and let themselves go..
If I was thinking of getting into a career and notice the majority of those in that career had sever skin problems.. I would want to know why...
It is one of the perplexing mysteries of truck driving... why drivers let their health and hygiene go.... they have a million excuses... but for someone who still showers daily, sometimes twice a day, brushes and flosses my teeth, uses restrooms and wears clean clothes... I realizes that it is not because of the demands of the job.. it is the driver and the choices they make not to take care of themselves...HalpinUout, Rocks and Alaska76 Thank this. -
I have a friend who was always over weight... well, from the time I met her... then, she got tired of being over weight... she said said it hit her when we all took a weekend trip on our motorcycles.... it was terribly hot and humid.. so we decided to find a lake or pool to go swimming in... well, we did... she didnt want to go swimming so she sat in the shade and watched us.... she said it was while watching us swimming and having fun that she made the conscious decision to lose weight... she gave up drinking pop.. and drank water instead, she traded candy bars for grapes and stuff.. and ate smaller portions... it wasnt until she lost a lot of her weight that she started to excersize....
She is a completely different woman now.. she lost 142lbs in 2 years... she swims with us as well as many other thi gs she use to not do... there were a lot of things she wouldn't do because of ner weight and her health.. ut now, she has more energy and can do much more than she use to... her knees and back do not hurt like they use to and she doesnt get sick as much as she use to...
I just admire her.. -
Well said.
