Welp sitting here with a coke and some pizza . No restaurant close enough to walk to.
I was looking forward to a cold beer. Lol

The flying j here has a cooler full of beer , but I have expressed my opinion on having beer in a truck before.........
Welp better get comfy , looks like i'll be here for a while .... ugh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are the rules for drinking alcohol when your Off Duty but parked at a truck stop ?

Can I go to a bar and have a few drinks then sleep in my truck since I won't leave till the next day ? I'm not a drinker so I never paid attention to how the rules work.

I think... if you were a driver in my former co., they would charge you for that over idle...

I am in northeast OR... it's not hot but it's not cool either... My current co. has a GREAT ThermoKing APU but I enjoy heat... as I am from Brasil... So, I have all my windows open (as long as driver next to me doesn't start smoking) and I am enjoying the nice breeze.........:yes2557:

One time I team drove with a guy who was alcoholic... :biggrin_2552:I didn't know until my second night in the truck with him... found him in the sleeper berth with two bottles of beer... He would try to park next to bars to go have a drink and watch TV and would always ask for 34 reset so he could spend the whole time drinking.... :biggrin_2552: That teaming didn't last long... :biggrin_25512:
I think that as long as one is under a load or waiting to be dispatched or even during 10 hr break which includes off duty and sleeper berth one is not supposed to drink alcohol. What if one is off duty, drinking, parked but some emergency happens and one has to move or drive the truck?

Like you, I don't drink alcohol, so I am not concerned about those rules... :biggrin_25512:

I am not really sure . A few days back I stoped at a mexican joint and had lots of food and like 3 beers , but I wasnt leaving for about 14 hrs , so yea I just went to my truck and went to sleep .
now I guess technically if you cause attention to yourself because you are clearly trashed . I am sure a cop can have something to say about it because now you are drunk , in a CMV , and you have keys. Oh and most likely you have it running. .

I know that we have to of had our last drink, I think 8 hrs before going on duty , but here is the problem with said rule : ok , I had 3 beers . 8 hrs later I am good to roll . Now if I had say a 12 pack . 8 hrs from the last one you will still be basically drunk . Lol

However there is a rule that says NO alcohol in a truck..

    Edit : maybe i'll set my trailer @ 60 degrees , go get a 6 pack and sit in there . :biggrin_25523:

Yes... that sucks... For 5 yrs I drove for a co. that had an idle policy of maximum 30%... Well, sometimes it was 35%... After that, co. would charge... :biggrin_2552: They were not interested in installing APUs in their trucks... Said the maintenance was too expensive...
I tolerate heat very well cause I don't sweat much at all... :biggrin_25512: and I am used to it... But the winter is a REAL KILLER on my skinny bones... :biggrin_2552: Nevertheless, I was the lowest idle in my whole dedicated division... about 1.5 %.... My dsp used to send msgs to the fleet using me as a "role model"... Until I told him that idle policy was a torture and I wouldn't be able to endure that much longer... and asked him to send me to warmer places... TX, FL, CA, etc... He was a very nice guy though... and we had great communication with each other... I wasn't ever charged for idling...
