One quick fix

The house of cards will come tumbling down the moment people realize that toilet paper has more intrinsic value than our money. It won't be pretty, but it will hardly be my fault.

 

Im not trying to be sarcastic or anything...but...why are you guys complaining about the high fuel prices?

Those that can cope with the fuel prices and adjust their business plans and how they operate, will suceed.

Those that are unable to work with the high fuel prices by becoming more fuel efficient, negotiatign fuel surcharges into their contracts, slowing down...etc, will not and will go out of business.

While Im NOT FOR people going out of business, but if people can't run their own companies efficiently with higher fuel costs and they go out of business, that means less competition for me as a driver...aka, the freight rates will go up.

But, and maybe that should be a bigger "BUT"...

but, when there are a lot of O/Os going under, the larger companies who pay their company drivers 26c a mile will be looking to take up the slack. Those larger companies have the infrastructure and negotiating power in place to profit when other O/Os simply can't.

Not much that can be done about it, but it's something else to think about.

 

that is the spin that the government is trying to put on this but if you look around you will find that it isn't getting much traction anymore let me ask you this since rates are not going to go up andf haven't for a long time just where is the break even point for your operation 5 bucks a gallon 10?? it doesnt mattet because it is going to rise until no one can afford to start their trucks let alone go any where with them, in the past several month many many truckers that had your same attitude are now realizing that they have been sold a bill of goods and that this whole industry is in big trouble, the way things are going there is going to only be a few trucking companies left and they will only make it because the government will subsidize them, driver pay will be just enough to meet expenses, the days of making a good living are fast comming to an end mainly because of driver apathy

 

Ok well...it sure seems the government money spent on education teaching students how to use punctuation helped much either.

But you bring up government spin? Im sorry if facts are considered spin in your world. But heres the scoop. IF we have 100 loads and 100 trucks, we are all fine and dandy. But if the cost of fuel (which some think is high) causes some people to go out of business...that means there are still going to be 100 loads...but maybe 70 trucks...a shortage. Well since the shippers need (and always will) their products to be moved, they will pay HIGHER premiums and rates to get the freight moved. Hence, the remaining O/Os and trucking companies will make more.

How is the industry in trouble? Its by far not in trouble at all. The economy is slowing down because of the home foreclosure thing...which is blamed on people buying homes they cant afford. IT wont be a permanent thing...the economy over its entire (and I mean ENTIRE) span has grown time after time after time. CFI-Conway and others just announced last week that they are going to be making less money. GREAT! Great time to buy CFI-Conway stock! Buy it low because they will catch up and grow over time as the economy rebounds.

Don't blame the high fuel prices when countries around the world are paying twice as much as we are for a gallon of fuel.

 

Exactly.... less power available just as right now there is less freight to go around!

 

you're forgetting to mention that the elites that do manage to stay in business by passing rising costs on to their customers. if a trucking company starts charging more money to haul groceries to the market. what do you think the store owner has to do? he has to raise his prices to cover the added expense, we're already seeing it and not just at the grocery store. it's the trickle down effect, it all rolls down to the end consumer. and, since the consumer accounts for 2/3 of the economy. when inflation rises so high we can't even afford basic necessities even some of you that have the best business plans and models will be out of a job.
