Recently, I've heard that someone was arrested in Illinois on felony eavesdropping charges for having a dashcam in their truck. I can't get a straight answer from anybody on this, but was wondering if anybody else heard anything about it. So far, the best advice I've gotten was to ask the authorities in each state if it's legal to run a dashcam. One forum I found had attorneys from MI, CA, OH, WI, NC and SC claiming they're legal there. This seems to become a bigger issue if you're taking video or audio of law enforcement who are on duty. Another forum says dashcams are legal in PA as long as they're not hidden.

Any info anybody has would be appreciated. Thanks.

Contact individual attorney general offices if you're concerned about it, they'll have a direct answer for your question. One you can point to, with a court.

    IN Attorney general.

    Indiana Attorney General's Office
    Indiana Government Center South
    302 W. Washington St., 5th Floor
    Indianapolis, IN 46204
    Phone: 317.232.6201
    Fax: 317.232.7979

AND btw- I doubt extremely highly, that you'll be ticketed or even arrested for having a dashcam equipped on a vehicle. I mean, look at talking on cellphones. They gave drivers upwards of over a years notice that it was gonna be illegal after '12- and they were very vocal about it; they had ads out, they had notices in truck stops out, ect-ect.

But, of course. There's gonna be one #### on this website that trys to contradict every piece of information in this post 'cause "he heard it from a friend who heard on the cb from a guy who heard from his grandmothers proctologist."

If I get a ticket for having a dashcam then so be it. It's a chance I'm willing to take.

If I get arrested for felony eavesdropping well then that would just make a great story

I bought a dash cam a year ago. I didn't see any type of disclaimers on any of the sites I looked at saying it would be illegal in any states.

I use a dash cam and it saved me twice from a headache by backing up my claims. I leave it on 24-7. If I get a ticket for it I'll consider it money well spent.

Good question although some get smarty because of good questions.

    1. Surely no truck driver wants a ticket.
    2. Surely ALL tuck drivers wants to be law abiding citizens.

I'll help everyone, just click on this search & find out about this subject: Are dash cams legal.

i think the only places you might have problems. would be the shippers and receivers that don't allow cameras.

untill the UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT says no. i think we're all safe. specially, considering all the videos that keep popping on the net.

the cops use cams as evidence. no reason we can't either.

innocent until proven guilty, and here comes the video. although, i could see evidence being denied, based on it being incriminating againt the person trying to deny. and a supreme court ruling NO MORE.

but, here's a money saving secret. the people of this forum turned me on to a app called drivers daily roads. it's being used on a old cell phone that is no longer used. and works REALLY good.

old cell phone, free app. = camcorder abilities without actually buying a camcorder.
my camcorder, is also used as my gps tablet, bluetooth gps transmitter for laptop, mp3 player, AND my most recent addition. OBD2 bluetooth automotive computer diagnostics.

don't throw your old cell phones away. the things they can still do.
