No we didn't. Greedy companies, substandard training and apathy have ruined it.

I push as hard as I can legally. The thought of 2 logbooks is something I cannot comprehend. Just keeping one logbook is more than enough for me. With 15 minute increments, I might round off to my favor, but on paper, I never go over my 8, 11 or 14.

I used to work in a fast paced 'piece rate' production and manufacturing industry for 17 years. Efficiency and motion economy play a big part in how I do my job. Hauling flatbed, every 30 or 45 seconds I can shave off here and there is very instinctual for me. I have gotten very good feedback from shippers and recievers.

I want to be on an EOB just so I don't have to do that paperwork.

    The "good old days".:biggrin_25521:

And then you hear on the news that truck driver has been filmed (and arrested) for walking naked on top off his truck, raving and ranting.
Geez, you really think lack off sleep and pills had nothing to do with it?:biggrin_25513:

We as truckers might be annoyed by HOS rules and the enforcement that comes with it but i know 1 thing,
i prefer to to have HOS rules because without them there is a good chance i will not reach retirement age.

And all those who say truckers should "self regulate"...............i call BS on that.
    People just don't do it.
Pierpressure, planners, bosses, greed, just being stupid,etc...............the list is endless off reasons why people cannot control themselves.

I drove in "the good old days",wasn't scared to work my butt off but you can keep them, don't ever want them back.

I agree with you 100%. What hasn't been mentioned is that in those days, horrific wrecks were frequent. No question, some changes needed to be made, but unfortunately, it's now gone from one extreme to another.

The HOS has nothing to do with safety. It just allows people who can't drive to qualify. If they did a 14/10, half of you guys would be out of work because you can't do a consistent 14 hour day everyday. Dumb it down, and lower the pay, advertise something about family and respect, and the slackers will come in droves. Every driver with a 65 mph truck should be capable of doing 697 miles in 11 hours. If 697 mph makes one a Supertrucker, then some of us were gods.

If truckers were paid enough to where one could work reasonable hours and still make a living, wouldn't that be the best situation?

At a 65 MPH company on eLogs, 697 miles in 10:53 is a pretty impressive feat. You almost have to be running west (flat and/or light), on interstate the whole way, as fast as the truck will go, only stop once at a stop on the right side of the road, put the eLog in off duty when you hit the end of the ramp.

I've done that before trying to "reach" that last possible sensible truck stop but it's not something I care to make a regular habit of. It's not worth the added stress and possibly the risk of losing a bonus payment because of an over-hours ding

Nothing like leaving the house monday morning, running out to shaky unload wed morning reload 2-3 picks and be sitting home fri night. About 4300 mi did that for 7.5 years talk about taking a toll on you. Take you about a 4 hr nap in albuquerque nm each way. Something you just got use too. Now on a dedicated 5 days a week still have to hustle though 702 mi a day.

Going back to the OP, I always thought the term 'super trucker' as a pejorative one. To me the first things that come to mind when I hear 'super trucker' are drivers who have two or three log books, drives 900+ miles a day, hits the upper range in a truck stop and uses his jake there too, tailgates, jabberwocks on the cb, and runs slightly outside the law.

I'm not saying that applies to anyone here, it's just what I think of when hearing the term.
