, I hear ya! See, I'm a drummer in a death metal band, used to be in two but dropped one sense it was a bunch of idiot's just wanting to get high and party rather than take it seriously because the "gonna be a rockstar" ego was just way to far fetched. I play music because I love it for the love of it (just like truck driving) and I never intended to make any money at it. I told the guy's this is a sacrifice I am going to make but it's also what I want to do. I got nothing but respect from them for it. What that guy wanted will never happen in a cold day in hell unless he has the kind of luck it take's to win the power ball.
His plan is a bad one that will fail before it even gets off the drawing board. I'm giving it up and stepping out of it for a while because I have responibilities and priorities I need to take care of and playing music in my case isn't going to pay the bill's and put food on the table.
I'm not getting out of it for good, just giving myself a break, continuing practicing when at home and if at home long enough, set up a jam session just for some good clean fun.

All right!!! I'm a drummer also, just not death metal. I never could get the double bass going. More blues, jazz and straight 8th note rock with a little funk thrown in for flavor.
I know, not a trucking issue but drummers stick together. -
Well said Dr. Drummer's do stick together. So should trucker's. I'm not trying to bash on him for wanting to do the 8hours in a truck and play gig's at night as I would to, but the reality is, it'll never happen. I know of a couple musicians who drive local and still can't handle a band, along with their personal live's. Me, yes, I love playing music but I have to hold my hand's out and look at them and ask myself, do I want to eat and have a place to live and something to rely on for retirment in the furture or on the other hand do I want to just party and hope for something that most people in the world never get? (being a rockstar) Like I said, I don't play music for money and I really never had a care of getting "big" with it, it's just my art, my way of showing what I am feeling just like an artist would do on paper. It's just my form of release from life. I want something for myself in life and a band unless your really that lucky, won't ever make it and you'll have nothing but your music and music alone.
Like mentioned MANY time's on this forum. A company is only what you make of it. Every company has it's up's and down's. Trucking isn't for a lot of people then again it is for other's. Speaking your opinion about a company is only one's opinion but bashing them really won't do you any good. I've seen a couple of post's on companies that really are "bad" because they don't want to fix anything, it's unsafe to you, your forced to drive it as is, etc. Fact is bashing on a big company isn't going to change anything. Just because it didn't work out or go so good for one person doesn't mean it won't. It's all in personal prefrence. -
Prime is bringing Mexican wanna be truck drivers up from Mexico to their SLC yard and teaching them how to pass the test. They're also installing bilingual gps systems in their trucks. So you might want to think twice about going to work for them. I'm sure what they pay the Mexican truckdrivers are not going to be enough to live on.
Seems they can drive for 3 weeks, go home for 2 days and stay legal. Or at least that's the story.
They're also turning their company trucks down to 58 but telling their drivers to log it at 68.
Good times. -
Where did you get this information from? Have an article you can point to or did you hear it on the CB? Pretty inflammatory statements there if you don't have a reliable source of that info your spouting there....

I'm working for prime and it's been just fine. I'm making money, and everything has been just as I expected. Anyone with some brain can see that the guy who created this post does not know anything about life. He sure didn't know what he was getting into. A lot of people think that O/O is Company driving, and its not. Sure prime has a quite bad deal for Solo O/O, if you go with their lease. But nobody is obligated to go with it. They are in business to make money. I think their failure is to make too easy for any but head get into lease, which feedbacks as a bad company. So as swift, schneider and all the happy friends.

Sounds about right.Someone needs to read the law a little.CDL holders must speak, read and understand english. But I have seen a few Interstate drivers who couldnt and not all of them from Mexico. As for a false logbook driver and company can be fined. And you know the Mexican drivers will say thats what the company told us to do.Then companys in BIG trouble.
-
Realy an O/O is one that owns his truck and authority. If you lease the truck the leaser owns it but doesnt pay notes. They tell you what and where to haul.Your a leased operator.
-
A 22 year old making comments about someones lack of knowledge about life is kinda absurd, don't you think?
Lots of people who are intelligent have signed onto bad truck leases because they were dealing with the same kind of predatory people as in the recently failed sub prime mortgage market who take advantage of people who just want a piece of the American dream.
Ever read a truck lease and or a mortgage contract fully and understood more then half of it?
They make it easy for people to lease because the lease is designed to make them money whether you are successful or not. -
Are you team or solo? What do you mean solo's have a hard deal? I have talked to several solo drivers pulling in $1,500+ net each week. Explain yourself.
