New to the site, obviously....and looking forward to conversing with you fine folks. I've already gained a wealth of information just reading up on some companies that I have been interested in!!
A little bit about me......I'm retired Navy, 1988-2008, where I did my bit for God and country.....PROUD of my service, though currently not too proud of my government.....
Aviation Structural Mechanic was my former job, which I transitioned into sheet metal mechanic once I retired......sick and tired of that trade, since it is getting me no where. Got my CDL-A just before I retired, and now I'm gonna take it for a spin....see what I can see, now that my son is old enough for me to be on the road.
Looking to get my tanker endorsement as well, hopefully that will afford a few more open doors. Not too sure about HazMat just yet....maybe later.....in the meantime, I'll be looking for a good company to start with, that will give me some good refresher training, and some good road time......
Always open to meet new folks and for some good advice!
Thanks!!
Greetings to all!

Welcome to the site.

A retired chief in Jacksonville landed a job with CTL Transportation. They're part of Comcar which is headquarted in Auburndale, FL. Comcar has their own CDL school.
Best would be to attend a community college CDL school then go right in to tankers. You're already ahead of the game by having a CDL.
There's some good ones out there that will hire right out of school and can run OTR if you want. Here's some good one's:
CTL Transportation
SVTN
Schneider Bulk
Trimac
Tidewater Transit
Superior Carriers
Rinaudo Enterprise (Jacksonville)
USS New Jersey (BB-62)

Thanks for the info......I can tell you that it is VERY easy to get overwhelmed looking at all the different companies.....right now, I'm looking at those that are military friendly. Melton seems to have a great deal going, a years OJT with benefits from the VA using post 9/11. I'm looking into it, Schnieder has something too, that I'm going to check into.....
Went and got my CDL-A renewed today, and added that Tanker Endorsement....just in case!Chinatown Thanks this. -
Melton also has Tri-Pac APU's which is a big plus.
Those Tri-Pacs can run as high as $16,000.00 so many companies either don't use them or buy a cheaper brand that's only good for heat or cooling.
