a surge of power may be excesive power amps. but not enough to blow fuses. otherwise. every circuit in truck and vehicle would constantly blow.
when your power goes out at home. it's recommended to turn EVERYTHING off when the power comes back on. to save from blowing appliances from them power surges.
why would your truck be any different????? simply turn the radio off when fireing up the truck.
Keep burning up XM radios!!!

Update: I didn't have any better luck with the Skyfi2 radios so i decided to go with the Skyfi3 radio since it has the built in battery thinking the radio would pull power thru that and save the radio from surges. So far so good! The radio itself sucks- no where as good as the Skyfi2 but at least I have my XM back!!
Thanks for all the help guys!! -
The skifi uses 6 volts from the adapter, which means that you have to have one for specific for XM radio. I assume you already knew that.
Now the other issue with skifi is these stupid adapters have two thin wires in them and they break. When I got mine, I just went nuts trying to figure out what was wrong with mine, it would just turn off for no reason - even if I was sitting in the truck stop listening to it. I finally got one that didn't give me problems and I actually made a stress relief cord for it, glued it to the wire and haven't had an issue since with them.
They made a 12 volt adapter (not for the lighter but one that is wired into the car) which I bought a couple of them and that is a bigger issue because one version of it if the plug is bad, it shorts out the voltage and the thing has to be "reset" by removing the voltage from it while other versions use thin wires just break. I've gotten a few of these for nothing when someone gets mad enough with having no XM. I have not gotten around to looking for buying the plugs for mine to replace them with, mainly because I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Oh before I forget, the cradle also has an issue, I went though a couple of them in the pickup thanks to the audio plug going bad. -
I went with a built in XM receiver on my deck about 5 years ago and it has been perfect ever since. I highly recommend that. No goofy external radio flopping around, and the wiring is all hidden.
