As I was reading the " Negative " Post on TA I was thinking that the guy had been suckered into a lease , seemed like that to me anyway. And being a wannabe trucker , if I did not have all this good info from this site maybe I would have fell for it, but I doubt it because I just want to drive for a few years and retire.

If I was younger and planning on driving several years I would look into being an O/O. I could buy a truck now but without much knowledge of the trucking industry it would probably be foolish.

Like everyone says , some people think things are going to be easy and then find out there is a lot more involved than they want to deal with.

I appreciate all the info I get here and from other threads , I have been on here searching for 10 months and have a lot better idea as what to expect although I am sure some things will still surprise me ;)

I am getting ready to take the wife to the DMV to try to get he an Indiana drivers license , she is nervous but I think she will do ok , since she is from the Philippines she has a Philippine , South Korean and an International drivers license. Maybe they will just give her a learners a permit for now, not sure.

We went to Sage truck driving school as I posted on the Carter Express thread and then stopped by Carter Express and talked with a recruiter. She asked if we wanted to be a team and I said maybe but my wife has to hold an Indiana license for 1 year before she can get her CDL .
The lady at Sage says my wife don't have to wait but Carter says yes one yr wait and I think I asked the DMV and they said one yr.
I will ask today at DMV.

I hear Covenant will train us both together , my wife a trainer and myself in a truck ???

After going to the DMV we will be heading to Anderson, Indiana to attend an Introductory class at Sage school and they will explain everything.
I think they said a Grant is used to pay for half the school and Carter Express will pick up the other half and no repay you just have to stay one yr. Not too bad.
I talked with a Carter Express driver and he said he is really happy there.

Anyone on here know anything about Carter Express ???

    Thanks for the input jaso36
I am looking over and over as to what we want as a husband driver and wife rider.

We have looked at so many companies and read so many post that sometimes you just have to sit back and absorb it all,lol

When I first got on here I thought ok I will ask which company I should work for and thought I would have the answer in a few days, haha was that a joke.

    Still looking :)

dennisroc, are you retiring from the other side of your life? Gotta tell you, if I had thought about getting a job like yours, I would never be here. Are you just wanting to come back to the "land of the px" or wanting to start something different? Just curious.

Panhandle , I am 60 and hope to,retire in a few years. I have never been in the military but have worked on their airplanes for many years and traveled all over the world and made a pretty good living but getting burnt out with working on airplanes for the military.

I will work on my airplane and a few locals when I am not driving and can pick up extra money that way if I want but I have spent the last almost 9 yrs now in South Korea. The money is great , the time from family and friends is the price you gotta pay.

I have been planning to come back to the states for a few years now so thinking trucking might work for us.

We have no bills really so what ever we make just bank and live off of while own the road. It's more for the experience than the money but want to get the best paying job as anyone does :)
I am in Indiana now on vacation now took the grand kids for a ride on the Harley and took them flying in the Piper Cub and had a great time , can't do that while I Am in Korea lol

I don't know anything about Carter Express, dennisroc. There are a few reviews here- http://www.indeed.com/cmp/Carter-Express/reviews
I always do a search for complaints when I am looking at a company. Many times the good reviews are management trying to boost ratings.:biggrin_25519: Then you have to separate the complaints .....folks that didn't understand trucking and got in over their head and the legitimate complaints that real drivers had.
They don't look like too bad of a company. There were more complaints made in 2012 by drivers...mostly over mileage and delays in loading and unloading. That was probably due more to the economy than to the company itself. The recent reviews are more positive.

Ooh, ooh, HTQ, I just had a light bulb go off! You know how churches and sometimes other organizations have "rent-a-teen" drives, where people who need house or yard done but are unable to do it (or all of it maybe, due to time constraints) pay for the teens to help out? Maybe you could loan your daughters out to some elderly folks or other, who could really use a helping hand. That would certainly give you some space!

BTW, speaking of negatively towards different trucking companies, a disgruntled trucker bashed Abilene on one of their forums. Knowing how most of the forums are utilized by drivers, or their significant other, who are committed to their job/company, it's really ridiculous (and I could use more detrimental terminology! ) those people would even complain on the forum. They are just setting themselves up for a rebuttal several times over!

    dennisroc and HometimeQueen Thank this.

Your still going to pay that price, being a driver. HT is at a premium. Most companies, it's 4 days a month. You'll drive odd hrs, have to put up with a lot of stupid people, and be tired most of the time. Not wanting to burst your bubble but, want to make sure you know what your getting into.

Can you get a local mechanics job instead?

Got wood around your windows, don't ya? Have them clean, caulk, and paint them. Is your roof brick also? If not, rent a power steamer and clean and paint them.

HTQ is being funny today on IM's. lol
