Hi all, new to the forum. Here's a bit of background.

I went to the Roadmaster "CDL Mill" for 3 weeks, graduated and signed on with Werner because they had a good training program. Been with the company 9 months now and my dispatcher is good, but pay is .21cpm and I can't save any money between bills and trying to fix my car.
I put in an application to Gordon, who offered me .29cpm home every weekend or .31cpm home every othet weekend, same miles I'm earning now (about 2200-2400 wk).

My question is this: How do I quit Werner? I'd prefer to give 2-3 weeks notice but I don't know if they'd screw me by dumping me halfway across the country (I live in CA) or if they would fire me on the spot. If I can't give 2-3 weeks notice should I just turn in my truck on my last day near the end of the month? Seems kinda rude to me but they've screwed me on my scheduled .02cpm raise for a month and frankly I'm tired of working for too little.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Listen, don't worry about hurting Werners feelings, they could care less. Not many drivers give companies any notice. On your last load and you know its going to the terminal just tell your dispatcher then right after or while you're getting loaded. That's plenty of notice. They went down in pay, back when I was with Werner I was making 24cpm.I know still bad. Here's how I quit, got home called my dispatcher and told her im cleaning the trk out,im done.

Schedule home time and drop the truck off in Fontana when you get there. No advance notice needed. They are sticking it to you right now, they are expecting it on the way out. Any other way and it might takes weeks longer to get home.

When I quit Werner I scheduled my home time and quit while I was home. I told them I was giving them a two week notice, but they told me to go ahead and turn my truck in at the nearest terminal. Lucky for me the nearest terminal is near my home. Last I checked I'm eligible for rehire upon review.

You should try Conway Truckload, that's where I went. They started me at 0.37 cents a mile and I've averaged about 750.00 a week take home. You'd probably start at 0.36 with your experience. I've been here for a little over a year and they are a good company.

Normally I would try and give notice. But I don't deal w/ scum like Werner. Might be better to just clean it out next hometime. Make sure and do thorough walkaround. I would probably film it if I had any doubts. Every scratch and ding. They don't care about you or any other driver. You know it. You've lived it 1st hand. Take the good you got from this time and move on. Forget about the lies and money and head upward. ..21 cents a mile is theft. Good luck.

When you're on your home time just call in and tell them you won't be back. Easy as that!

You toughed it out this long. If it was me I would shoot for that 1 year mark. That's only 3 short months away. Then you can find a much better job paying a lot more.

Notices are fine and dandy in the normal world but in trucking and especially with the mega carriers/newbies it opens you up to being screwed and most likely will. Like BBP said do it after home time where you can clean the truck out and make up some excuse your truck needs worked on so they bring you to the terminal. Your main concern is a clean driving record and no abandonment or quit under a load. Clean the truck out good and give it a good cleaning. Take pictures.

At that point being empty and at the terminal, if you walked into dispatch and said I'll work 1-2 weeks more they will probably tell you to go ahead and quit now. That or they'll punish you and make you sit somewhere far away.

I know it sounds cruel but it protects your own interest and limits what they can rob out of your paycheck. When you move up in the industry and find a better job then you can do the notice thing.

You can take a leave of absence up to a month at Werner. If it is over a week they will route you to a terminal to turn the truck in. Start the new job, if it turns sour in the first week or two you still have your old job. As soon as your comfortable the recruiter at the new place didn't lie give your notice to Werner.

This way they inspect your truck with the idea you will be back and you will have given a week or two notice after your truck is inspected and you're at home.
