Blame the feds on this one. I know NYS recieves many mllions of extra dough each year as long as this state continues to keep tolls on the toll roads here. I remember 20 or so years ago, this state bragging to the public as to how they were gonna remove the tolls, once I-87 was finally paid off.

This all went out the window once they learned they would lose the federal subsidies from uncle sam and wouldn't be getting to double dip any more.

I remember reading somewhere many years ago, the justification for fuel taxes were put in place to soley maintain roads-bridges. Wait a minute, what does the political system in this country spend all these (fuel)taxes on anyway and they have the audacity to strip even more money in the form of tolls etc from the public. (fuel and the tax that goes along with it, have more than doubled in just a few short years)

I say the best way to maintain infrastructure is to get the gov't out of this so called business and privatize it, as normal businesses are accountable unlike goverment operated things whereas they seem to have a license to print money.

Wait, that's called a monopoly, oh now I get it.

pretty soon, there will be no way of getting to NY/NJ and north without paying for junk roads. If they have their way there will be no FREE East-West Interstate route through PA, and I can only imagine that NY will do the same with I-86 to pay for the extension through Binghamton. Then the states will complain that trucks are using too many secondary routes, and either restrict them or toll them as well.
