Listen up, guys! Anyone who believes that they can just transmit on any VHF frequency they want and start jabbering away with their buddies, well, think again!
First of all, as a professional driver you must be authorized by the trucking company who employs you to use their specifically-assigned frequencies, whose VHF radios are licensed to those companies, the frequencies of which are to be used by the driver for their specific purposes.
Many of the frequencies previously listed in this forum by blog members are not only registered with trucking firms, but are also assigned exclusively to fire departments , helicopter companies, and various government departments, etc., for road safety and emergencies, licensed users who would immediately report any unauthorized usage and therefore be totally within their rights to notify the scofflaws' trucking firms of such activity and even to fine them, after which the errant drivers could be fired.
Such "bandit radio" activity can only cause confusion and even danger in many instances. Rules are rules and they are there for a reason. How would you like your own company or business to be disrupted by unauthorized radio chatter?
For proper VHF radio communication procedure, see:

While CB radio has its problems with skip noise and the like, as of June 2014 Canada has just authorized four new VHF frequencies for portable and mobile use. These are the MURS or Multi-Use Radio Service frequencies which have been established in the U.S. for many years already. No license is necessary and the radios can be purchased in the U.S. from radio dealers or online to be used in Canada until such time Canadian dealers begin to sell them. The frequencies are: 151.820, 151.880, 151.940, 154.570, 154.600

As a FCC License holder for four itinerate channels for VHF in the United State I would like to caution our friends to the north on the use of some frequencies in the "Lower 48".
The "Mullen" frequencies in the United State are dedicated to U.S. Federal Agencies. Some of these include some really scary departments which don't like to be recognized.
The other two channels which you may want to avoid are "LADD 1 (154.1000)" and "LADD 3 (154.3250)". these are used often by, and classified as: "U.S. LAW"-(for LADD 1) and "U.S. FIRE"-(for LADD 3). You will notice by monitoring them, you will hear these departments utilizing them frequently, especially in the Western Washington State/Northern Idaho areas.
All the other channels have been used with good communication results with the authorized users without incidents..... (That I am aware of.)
Welcome, from your southern friends of North America. -
The 4 LADD channels are open channels and not owned by anyone. I don't know where you got your information from.
