As I was "hammer down" today; that's right, 62 MPH, I was passed by some company truck. On the back of the trailer was an advertisement for company drivers; owner ops, brokers and agents. Difference?, and why does a trucking company want them? What task do they perform?

company drivers;
Drive company trucks
owner ops,
Drive thier own truck hauling the companies freight. they generally loose a % of the revenue or the company pays them a set rate per mile much higher then Company drivers because they own the rig. Companies need drivers and a driver with his own truck is an easy worker with little overhead.
brokers
Work with customers to find trucking companies to haul the customers freght. Normally they take a % to hook the customer up with the company. Having your own brokers means you can book customer freight and give it to other companies if your over loaded. A company can subcontract freight to another carrier without a broker license. Ever see landstar drivers hauling freight that says schinder ont he BOL? Scnider brokers gave it to landstar for a fee because they couldn't handle the customer demand.
and agents
Agents are basically the worker bees for a broker. They dont have their own broker license, but pretty much act like a broker and work for someone who does. -
My Bad! Just needed the description of brokers and agents. Thanks for your reply!

Simply put,
Brokers make deals with customers and find companies to haul it. They take a % for the match making. If a company has extra freight from their customer they need a broker to get rid of it. Agents are the worker for a broker. -
Brokers the more you use them the broker you go!
