Have a Pete now, have had other petes and one KW. I haul logs out west and I need to upgrade due to smog (guess what state I am in!) I am looking at a 2008 FLD 120 SD with a 14.0L DD 18 speed and 46K rears. Trucks came out of oil fields? and have around 300K miles. Any thing to look out for? Should I run away fast?
    Thanks

2008 and 2009 are the absolute worst ever. the reason your probably entertaining looking them is they are cheaper than the rest. run fast. or get a loan for a better 2011 or newer. Thanks CARB....not really.

First off, Detroit Series 60 had the least problems when EPA 2007 engines came along. Talking to people, the only issues that pop up are EGR valve. Compare to the ISX and ACERT C15. They all seem to suffer when it comes to fuel mileage. That SEries 60, make sure you have the factory settings enabled to the highest level, as most fleets turn them down but this makes them horrid to drive. The C15 and ISX don't seem so bad, but the Series 60 does not like to be babied or turned down, it likes higher rpms. Would I worry about it? No. How many miles and what are they wanting for it?

I ran a 2008 (only wish it was a SD:biggrin_25514:)with a 14 liter, it wasn't that bad, performance wise, including fuel mileage, and it would rev, although the last flash to clear up a rough idle made it pull down almost as well as the DD15 I'm driving now. Same horsepower and torque ratings.

    Is it geared right?
