Newbie Needed Advice Please

Personally, I would try to hire on direct. I'm not a fan of staffing agencies.

In the Bakken, unless you are a salary employee, I've never heard of anyone getting paid for their days off. Only guys that I know of of ours that get per diem as the guys that run our swab rigs.

 

Hello MrsTW. Your anxiousness is understandable but I assure you your husband can get an oilfield job fresh out of school. It may not be with the best company or one that meets all the qualifications you two seem to be looking for, but he will get there with patience and perseverance. I was in his same shoes at the end of 2011, fresh out of school with hopes of hauling crude oil right after graduation. While I wasn't able to get that lucky, I did get the opportunity 4 months later. Here are what I think would be important based upon my own experience and struggles during that time:
1. Get offline and get knocking on doors. I think this is very important for new guys (gals). When you don't have credentials and time behind the wheel, shaking someones hand goes a long way to building trust and trust is what he will need to get into a tractor.
2. Don't be picky (at first). I didn't care where I landed, I just knew I needed to start driving. To accomplish this, I went to the small towns near the areas I knew had a lot of drilling activity. More activity means more drivers needed. I asked about companies in the area that might be hiring. After getting ten company names, I went home and got phone numbers off line and I called all of them. I got the name of the person that hires drivers then I went knocking. I got my first chance to drive with a 2 bit energy outfit hauling frac tanks a week later.
3. Be cool. Be confident. And BS them. Let them know you want to work and show your hours of jobs prior.
4. Don't become discouraged. Ever. Stay positive. Keep plugging. He'll get to the goal you both have set.

It is possible to find companies that pay for the week off but they are rare. The only company that I knew of that paid the off week was Halliburton but Im not sure if they do anymore. Again, don't set to many qualifiers up front. Get a job in the oilfield, get some experience, then look for the places that offer what you want. Near Denton and Gainseville should be some energy companies he can look into.

Trican has offices in Weatherford, FTW, Springtown. Weatherford has Decatur and other yards. Many many more. You will be surprised how easy it is if you are in the presence of those hiring.
