Why I think every driver should have a dash cam.

    After getting run off the road and not being able to get any help from authorities. I've come to the conclusion that it's worth the investment to help try and preserve you Job, record and all around lively hood.

    I don't understand how someone driving an 80,000lb truck would let anyone run them off the road? If there was no collision what would you expect the police to do? There's nothing for them to do...

    Like I said in the video to avoid a collision I had to pull off off the road and in to the shoulder. I'm not about to let my driving record get trash over some dip #### driver. Regardless if there was a collision it's still a violation a serious one at that. People die out here for stupid #### just like that. Does a drunk driver not deserve to go to jail if they're was no accident go figure.
    It's called reckless endangerment and can be a serious violation depending how bad it is.

    Or maybe, you just wasn't paying attention when it happened and you thought you had to pull over to the shoulder because you panicked? But it's always better and easier to blame someone else vs examine our own situation on how we could have bettered ourselves to try and make sure it didn't happen again.

    dash cams are like a double edge sword what may not get you today may get you tomorrow. Sometimes it's better to be careful for what one wishes for.

    I have trouble understanding that If the police declined to respond, then why would you STILL continue to follow them and then take pictures of the license plates on their vehicle when no collision with them ever took place? Seems to me you are the one asking for trouble at that point...

    Someone cutting you off on accident doesn't fall under "reckless endangerment"

    No the police told me to take down the info, if I wanted to file a on it I would need that info. It seemed like they were all gun hoe at first but in the end, they failed to respond.. I called the Oregon state police as well because that's were it happened. This is what they said-a state trooper actually contacted me while I was down there. He said they were short on hands, that there were only two officers working patrol that day in Ashland and that he was at a sight of some other accident scene involving a rolled semi. The trooper was actually an alright guy and seemed to want to help but do hid circumstance at hand couldn't. All in all though it was pretty discouraging. I'm not going to get into all the details but thats why I am saying you need to cover your own ### or at least try nothings full proof. I figure a dash cam can only help.

    Maybe, in theory. In practice the typical truck driver is by far most likely to produce evidence of their own incompetence/negligence.

    "An error occurred" so I didn't see your entire video, but "Full Speed Productions" is not, IMO, suggestive of orientation toward "safety".

    A prosecutor may use it to suggest to a jury of nitwitted 4-wheelers exactly that. Just sayin'...

    Buying a dash cam is a smart move. For future reference; any old smart phone can be re-purposed as a high quality dashcam. I have several old phones with dashcam apps that record in 2 minute never ending loops. Much better than the ones they sell in truck stops, whereas you can transfer retained footage via bluetooth to your main phone and upload anywhere in a matter of minutes. The app I use is called DailyRoads.

    I'm thinking of doing the repurposed smartphone thing, but the phone I plan on using isn't activated. What would you suggest for getting DailyRoads installed without first activating the phone?

    Easy, setup the phone via wifi and you're good to go. I set mine up at home initially so no service needed really.
