Thinking of getting into a 2010 western star 4900FX constellation 600hp Cummings.
for logging in Australia pulling 50 tonne pay loads.
Currently running 2010 mack trident mp8 had nothing but trouble with these EGR macks.
Need to know if the above mentioned model western star is a reliable rig?

Yeah...........I've heard great things about those CUMMINGS engines LMAO
If you are talkin' about a CUMMINS..........depends on what incarnation of the ISX you are running down under. -
Rookie mistake!

Average in the reliability department.........keep your idle time down. The star car itself is a great truck.

What are the common problems?

From my personal experience with Cummins the most common problems are gonna be EGR valves and EGR coolers. Put 300,000mi on a ISX 500/1850 and went thru 2 EGR valves, 1 EGR cooler, 1 Turbo, 2 Fuel injectors, 2 doser nozzles for the DEF, and had the DPF filter cleaned 4 times. When it was running right it was a beast. All the added emission devices do more harm than good to these new motors no matter what brand. Western Star is a very well built plush ride, however parts are harder to come by and usually at a premium price.

I have a 2010 isx as stated above only problems ive had was one egr valve and one trans cooler replaced and had to do one manual regen besides that its been a great motor and you wont find a better pulling motor.
