Not saying the info is wrong or right but just wondering.

By the way, I know two people running legal limit amps in their trucks, no issues with the truck ecm or anything else in the truck, but that is a quality amp.

 

So they have 4 watt amps. For a cb. 4 watts is the legal limit. Ham license or not. If you are on the cb frequencys it is limited to 4. I repeat 4 watts anymore it's not legal. Period

 

well you either believe me or not, your choice but typical fm radios used by emergency services and private two way users are 50 watts and have the option of using a repeater and that will have 500 watts according to fcc regulation.

 

you are talking licensed ham radios there not cb ... Cb runs am not FM and the legal limit for cb as said before is 4 watts sorry those emergency crews don't use a cb they most likely use a mobile ham

 

No he's talking about commercial radios, I'm talking about legal limit amps for hams which are about the same as 1000 watt CB amps but clean and ... legal.

Its not the case of believing you or ont, I'm trying to figure out what you are talking about.

SO I understand where you are coming from but there are some radio systems (VHF/UHF) that run a lot more than 50 watts, I had a Motorola Spectra that had 110 out, it wasn't like my GE that I gave away that had 250 watts out. There are a couple which have close to 400 watts out but that's HF stuff.

 

Right but those fall under the ham radio rules. Not the same rules as a cb. You have to have a license for those. Whereas a 4 watt cb you do not. Don't confuse people who don't know. If the electronic thingy in a truck you use to talk on without a license has more than 4 watts. It can be seized and whoever had it fined a lot.

 

My comment was in regard to 200+ Watts causing damage to the ECM. Reps from both GM and Ford have told km e that they design to handle 110W.

FYI, if you blow the ECM running high power on CB, it mauy well not be covered under warranty.

 

But how do they prove that is where the damage came from?

 

By the 250W amp sitting on the dash by the CB?
