Most recommend the community college. Sage is good also but usually more expensive than community college. Most high quality trucking companies will hire community college CDL grads.

One idea is to call any trucking companies you're interested in and ask which school they hire from. If you find a company you want; they may hire from either school, so then go with the cheapest.

Get all the endorsements plus TWIC and a passport to qualify for the better paying jobs.

Here's a few companies to research on their websites and they all hire new CDL grads, even if the websites say "experience required." Tanker companies you will make $55K - $65K per year.

    Tankers
    SVTN
    Superior Carriers
    CTL Transportation
    Schneider Bulk (tankers)
    Tidewater Transit
    Trimac Transportation

    Flatbed

    Melton Truck Lines
    TMC
    Halvor Lines

    Refrigerated/van

    Super Service
    Sunstate Carriers
    Southeastern Freight
    Florida Beauty Flora Transportation
    Con-way
    Navajo Express

Note - you can submit online applications to any companies you're interested in on the first day of school.

Thanks Chinatown, Well trimac doesn't have any approved schools in FL,superior only takes roadmaster from fl which i don't want to go there. Southeastern and tidewater said they don't have a preference. In my short search for companies tidewater really caught my eye for some reason. If a school doesn't offer doubles, tanker or hazmat is it difficult to get after?

Texmade not sure what school you mean? Mid fl tech is 2300 and not sure about sage but I've heardclose to 4000

You get the doubles, tanker, hazmat at the DMV. Study the "CDL Practice Tests" at the top of this page for those tests which are taken at the DMV.

If you want SVTN or Tidewater, better get the hazmat/tanker endorsements before graduating. Google will show where nearest TWIC office is to apply for TWIC card. TWIC is used by tanker drivers for entry to chemical plants, sea ports, military facilities.

All the tanker companies are good. RevKev posts on here about Tidewater and really likes the company & making good money. CTL is good for OTR, but the local work doesn't pay very well. All those tanker outfits are good.

From what I understand, Sunstate Carriers runs Florida/Canada turnarounds and no West Coast.

Navajo runs 48 states & has terminals as far West as California & trucks have APU's.

Tanker would be best in my opinion.

Apply with several companies and for certain SVTN and Tidewater.

Spoke with tidewater, they actually seemed interested since they told me they only run out of Jacksonville for the fl terminal, and asked where i lived and how far away it was from there. But its 180 miles one way and they will only hire within 35 miles. Even said I'm willing to move closer or out of state. She said their turn over isn't high and they only hire an average of 6 drivers a month for the whole company.
Still waiting to hear back from the others.
Still will try applying at tidewater once i actually get my cdl as things change.

I notice ctl transport offers a cdl school with a 1 year commitment would this be a good choice or would you stay with a commitment free school?
