People who quit trucking... what's the alternative?

If you are going to be down 2 weeks and you are as important to the company as you constantly claim thn they will find a truck for you to run while it's in the shop.

 

The alternative is also getting a government check or living off family. Neither of which I will do. Glad that I found an industry that I have the potential to earn a decent living for my family if I play the game right. A lot of guys are afraid to leave home to follow the work. I just got back from North Dakota after a year to catch up my bills, and now I have retrained to become a truck driver so I don't have to be depressed at a 12.00 dollar an hour dead end job.

 

Hi NNG, actually, that's a big problem, as once you do trucking, everything else, job wise, is less than appealing. I'm struggling with that right now. I'm too young to retire (59 1/2) and too old to pound the pavement. I know, if I commit to a trucking job again, they will run me ragged, and there's limited opportunities for a part-time driver, as I'm not the only one in this position. If you find an answer, please let me know, and don't say, "Go back to school", as I hated school, which is why I became a truck driver in the first place.

I hated school too. Always been a hands on learner. Show me how, then let me do.

 

Oh my God. Are u kidding me? "My a/c in the sleeper doesn't work".... Do you think this old timers had a/c? Im sure not. And while this might blow your mind, they survived and did just fine.

Not trying to pick on the OP here, but this is what's wrong with drivers nowadays. They want all the modern amenities found in a five star hotel packed into their truck. And when it quits working, then we hear " my company do sent care about me, my a/c doesn't work and they won't fix it right now "

Suck it up buttercup. .pretty soon you'll be whining when ya gotta throw tire chains on. "My company don't like me, they make me put tire chains on all by myself, they refused to call road service for me. Help!!!!"

Better yet, please do quit. Make way for those that wanna be here. Its time to thin the herd anyway.

I would suggest robbing a large bank if you get away with it you can retire if you do not get away with it you will be retired.
