I recently posted about buying a truck. I am pretty sure I will go with this one if it checks out okay. I just wanted to get some experienced replies, I really appreciate it a lot! Here is a link.

What do you guys think, is it a good deal, will it be good on gas? Any input is greatly appreciated it.

Check its maintenance records. With that amount of miles, you should be able to tell if there is anything that might pop up as a possible chronic problem. If you're still that interested, check with a mech to see if there is any excessive engine wear. You should still be good for at least another 300-400,000 miles before needing a rebuild.

I'm not sure about the price, but I'm going to assume that the aero models are probably starting to go up in value in relation to the flat fronts. I'd also ask the dealer to take at least another 5% off the price just for having that horrible paint color!! :biggrin_2559:

    Thanks,
Do you think it would be a better truck if the ratio was 3.55 and 13 speed?

OKay, so the dealer made this offer, 10 brand new tires, dyno, dot inspection and front bumper for 34,900. I just don't know what to do:biggrin_25523:, this is driving me crazy

I will tell you one thing about cats is they have tendency to drop injecter tips in the motor. 550 or skinner will be able to tell you about that as I do not own a cat I just know that much about them.

I have never had issues, they like to do that when overheated. Get a full ecm print out with milage and history, it will say if its ever been ran hot. I myself like my CATs yes they dont get the best millage but i find them most powerfull and reliable. If i was gonna get something other than CAT it would be the green monster...... Detroit diesel, ive had some experience with cummins and it has left a real sour taste in my mouth.

13 or 18sp would be better, but the 3.70 rear is usually good. What size tires?

You want cruise RPM between 1400-1600 RPM.

Some 10 speeds have a big jump in between 9th and 10th speeds. I would have to look up that model trans. Too big a jump can be a problem finding "the right gear" to pull hills down at 1200 RPM. (without going to slow)

The C15 engine does not drop injector tips very often. It has a steel crown piston that usually survives if they do.

As the other poster said, get a print of logged faults, events and histograms from the ECM.

Driven properly it will give decent fuel mileage. See this post I made.

My guess is it was an old bedbuggn truck. If that is the case then it probably wasnt worked to hard. It may have a lot of idle time though. Like 550 said, pull ecm data and check it out

That truck should easily get in the 6's set up like that. I would definately get all of the printouts and if you have questions, get them poste. That deal sounds better with the new rubber, get them to reshoe it at that price (brake linings) unless they are 90% or tell them that deal and 33.... see what happens as thy can always counter.
