Well, I will be looking forward to that. Rental car would be cheaper and a lot faster.wounder what has taken so long for at least one company to figure that out.

When I trained it was $300 or $350 a week, I was out all five weeks straight, so home time didn't matter. I just wanted a trainer so I didn't care if he listened to classical, or rap or what. I just wanted to train. The pay raise is awesome, but the rest is just luxuries. People should be happy to just have a job at that point.

I was prepared for the possibility of getting a trainer that stayed out for weeks on end. Thankfully I got Chris Durant from Grove Port Ohio, which is 86 miles from my home. He goes home weekly, allows whoever is driving to listen to whatever they want to, and is hooking me up on my food. He doesnt have to as my wife works, and we have some funds saved for me for food and such. But its awesome that hes doing this for me. I met him at the Baymont while there. Our first load is a load of Owens Corning going to a school job site in Cleveland, we need to be there by 8am as there is a crane their waiting for us. Im meeting him at the Pilot off I70 and Wilson Ave in Columbus Monday morning at around 430am.
Below is my grad class. Some really good guys here. Im standing in the back with the black and white TMC hat on.

My point though is they are a great place to work, awesome benefits package, great pay, and great opportunities once you've been there for a while. I will also tell you that the first roughly 6 months are going to be the hardest for you, I have told other people on here this same thing! THEY ARE GOING TO TEST YOU!!! You will get the short end of the stick, loads that suck and pay crap, and they are going to be strict with you! With that said, after that initial 6 months you will look back and say, that was all worth it! You sound like your responsible, have a good head on your shoulders and have a great work ethic! Just keep calm about those crappy days and it will all be good brother, it gets better!
Living in our area also, your going to do tons of steel! Coils, plate and sheet! Also you living in Ohio, you will do wall board or drywall whichever you call it, a ton!!! If you have any questions ask them, and you can always come on here and ask, somebody on here will have an answer and probably 10 of us will have 10 different ways to do it! Good luck and keep us updated. -
I dont expect to clear more than $500 a week as take home for the first 6 months because of the testing me. If I can make that as take home, I will be happy. My previous job I was lucky to clear $850 every TWO weeks. They mentioned that I would most likely be doing a lot of plate steel, coils, welfare coils, and wall board. Seeing how Silver Grove is about 3 hours south of me, that only makes sense. Im not afraid of a little hard work and sweat. Many drivers have told me that living where I do its a gold mine after my time is "put in". So long as they respect me as a person, I think i can deal with some ######## for a time.
I definitely plan to keep this blog open and updated at least a few days a week with my experiences and the knowledge I gain. Being that there arent many recent threads in the TMC forum, I think it will help those coming into it.Sapper92, bubbagumpshrimp and milskired Thank this. -
Gunner...I will be shocked if that what you earn. Straight up, the guys I trained were into the 900+ net/week range in the first few months...and getting home. You'll be surprised! Focus on learning to make all your decisions built around how it will drive your % up. Routing is the easiest one to control and helps the most. The best investment I made was my Rand GPS. Also, learn the points system and capitalize on it. Take the TQM class as soon as you can (5 pts), get a pass card (4pts), leave out on Sun night (17-22 pts/ MO)...build good habits early on and let them become "just the way you do things"
Be safe and have a good ride with your trainer. -
When I was done training at Des Monies me and 2 other guys were assigned a rental car and we drove together. One guy lived in Illinois and the other in Ohio and I picked up a guy in Philly who was heading to Des Monies to test out because he just got done with his trainer. He dropped me off where I live just outside Philly. But I was always told be prepared to leave Des Monies with a trainer but I most if not all go home first.
My trainer was awesome but he lived in Virgina and I was in South Jersey, he was just outside D.C. but it was a long ride back and forth. TMC used to ( not sure if they still do)pay for a hotel if your trainer was over I think 150 miles away. I was over that in miles but according to TMC miles I wasn't. But they paid for gas mileage and tolls. And my trainer would drive the last leg on Friday because he knew I would have a long drive still to get home.
