Long story short is I have a record from awhile back for shutting someone up. Wrong place wrong time, wrong decision. Got charged and convicted of assault causing bodily harm/injury(guy had a week nose..)
Question is, would this be much problem of crossing south of the border for me if required to in my trucking career? Need any extra documentation to cross the border?
I renewed my passport last winter without any glitches. Good for 10 years..
Thanks guys!

Better check. I'm Canadian living in the US. I've got 5 buddies who have vacation homes down here. One of them couldn't come down last year because he had a 40 year old DUI. Wasn't a problem until last year, but they are cracking down. Good luck.

I've been getting mixed answers from a lot of different folks. Figured I would ask the people who probably cross the border the most!
I guess push come to shove I could call the border..lol -
apply for a fast card on line when you get an interview at the border ,,,they will O.K.you or tell you how to deal with the past .... good luck man

Any conviction for assault,no matter how old can bar you from entry to the US.I have seen drivers crossing for years and being checked regularly without a problem and then get to customs 1 day and get run on a secondary check on a different data base and a conviction comes up that might be 20 years old and they are turned around and barred permanently.

Applying for the fast card is the best choice. Both countries have to background check and approve you. I'm thinking you will be denied...

My thoughts exactly on the fast card. I can't get it expunged from my record for another year I think, might be two. After that I'm not entirely sure what the situation would be!

I'm telling you first hand that it will be a problem, if you have a criminal for anything regardless of how far back (in my case over 30 years) you will eventually be stopped maybe not today or tomorrow but you will be stopped and kicked back regardless of the situation no exceptions!!! You can either apply in advance and depending on circumstances it will take up to a year for a waiver letter from Homeland security allowing you to enter the states for set periods of time and limited in nature to pleasure or some times business. Do not believe anyone that says you can flip a few bucks and have it easily dealt with, it's simply not true. If it was drug or sex related expect big problems and possibly no entry.

Thank you sir!

Homeland security does not care if your pardoned or not, in their eyes you have been convicted and it stands.Macneil Thanks this.
