My personal experience, I had a customer with a similar situation. Truck is paid for but the engine did not burn correctly for a retrofit DPF. So my customer wanted us to do an engine in-frame, explained to customer that the engine needed to be broken in properly prior to installing the retrofit DPF, at least a few 1000 miles (minimal idle, easy acceleration etc..). I don't think the customer did his part and the other shop was all to willing to sell him and install the retrofit DPF.
Fast forward to 2 months later, my customer states that the truck runs but feels like something is holding it back (muffled). Also, has had some issues with fueling, this was only when he would start the engine in the mornings (some mornings), almost like injectors were not holding prime. He came to me and I performed a cut out test at idle and high idle, I was not able to find anything wrong.
So I would agree with some of the fellas here, adding a retrofit DPF to an engine that was not meant for it may not be the best way to go.
Consider all your options, the truck will run different. I have approximately 90% of my customers with 2008 or newer engine because they had to meet CARB requirements. In all the trucks run well, some issues but more so with sensors. I would avoid the CAT ACERT engines.
    Hope this helps.

Just a little FYI, you can't just throw one on a truck and expect the truck to be CARB compliant.

Why are you doing this? The regs require a 2007 EPA or newer engine. Retrofitting a DPF will not make you legal. This was previously true, but not any more. I am 99% sure of this, I wouldn't waste your money. You can buy a 2008 truck with a factory EPA 2007 engine for 35-40k.

I wouldn't waste this $$; If you need to go to CA, buy a truck like mine with higher mileage for 15-20,000$ and maintain it, atleast was designed for DPF. There's no easy way in and out of Ca, all highways I-8,10,40,15,5 have long hills, engines overheating are pushed to limits, I doubt this dpf is going to work for you.
I have 1,320,000 miles and 7 years on my Volvo D13 with dpf, The dpf system didn't give me many problems, runs one REGEN in 2200-2500 miles; I cleaned it once at 400k, replaced the filter at 900k, cleaned again the new filter last month, and a dozen of sensors and 5-6 flex pipes ; The EGR cycle was more a pain, I replaced 2 egr valves at 800k miles and 1,200k, but the sensors on EGR cycle connected with turbo actuator gives more faults ,engine derated and I found about a pound of egr mud deposit on the bottom of my oil pan, I'm amazed this truck is still running on original motor. the EGR dirt and smoke recycled through motor is more damaging than the DPF. This motors are designed for DPF, with vgt turbo, ultra high injection pressure and the manifold needs to take the back pressure; the original manifold on my truck was leaking smoke on new truck, was redesigned by Volvo and upgraded.

Before you spend your money,do check how long your truck will be legal in CA with the DPF.

I would say it is time to buy a brand new truck.

Last I checked there were no exetensions. Putting a DPF on a non EPA 07 engine is not going to make it carb legal.

What a mess. This is just one of the many reasons that I have taken California off the list of places my truck will go. I really feel for those that live there or who have the customer setup that they are going to have to go there.
