had you accepted that load, when you arrived in Denver your DM would probably have told you to take it to the Denver drop yard and and grab an empty. A local guy would have delivered, you would have been dispatched to the meat patch to pick up a load going to the east coast most likely for a total of about 2200 miles. Not a bad week for wet behind the ears rookie. You have learn how to play the game at Stevens. I would bet money on the fact that Prime is the same way, test the new guy out, take it easy on him/her for the first couple of months until they prove themselves. Pretty much all the "training" companies are going to operate this way. They will eat you alive for the first 5-6 months, Just to see what you are made of. If you whine and complain to dispatch, DM, or anyone else they just gonna make it worse for you. On the other hand if you do what they want, with no complaining, eventually you will get moved to the top of list.

All the large companies are basically the same, it is what you make of it. If your unhappy at 1 large training company, you will most likely be unhappy at all of them.

What ever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck.

Yep; all companies test their new drivers.

My second run as a solo driver was four days to go 500 miles. It was a live unload, with a 9-5 daily window. I was sitting there at 8 AM. It didn't take long to get to the 3 day, 1500 mile runs with that attitude.

The people you hear griping about getting 1000 miles a week are the ones that take the four days to go the 500 miles. Sorry, I'm here to make money, not sit in the truck stop TV room and whine about how much my company sucks.

Since you've never walked through the door at Prime, let alone driven for them... could I suggest that you restrict yourself to being an expert on JCT? Why would this driver need to train?

Since you don't even have a clue about what's in the lease program at Prime, how can you make any valid comparisons with any other carrier. Let's face it you don't know the first thing about Prime.

That's one of the least consequential expenses that a Prime lease op has to deal with. The first fill on any reefer is paid for by Prime. The advanced software suite in the reefer's controller guarantees that on most loads (outside of the hottest parts of the year) that you'll only be responsible for a couple of gallons. My own reefer costs are 0.7-cpm year-to-date. A fair question would be why doesn't Prime pay for reefer fuel? The answer is that they used to, and most ICs didn't pay a bit of attention to the operation of the reefer outside of turning it on, leaving it on, and not worrying about the cost. When fuel prices spiked in 2008, our owner decided it was time to get drivers to pay attention to what was going on... when you become financially responsible for part of that cost, you sit up and notice.

If that's how you judge a business opportunity Stile, you have quite a long way to go.

Turns out the OP isn't interested at all. In fact pumping a recruiter for information is quite a good way to determine if you want to go further in the due diligence process at any carrier. It's quite easy to ask the same question in a number of different ways, to determine whether the carrier is being up front with you, or are playing used car salesman on you.

Wrong. Any driver coming to Prime with a CDL will not be put back through a student driver program if they have recently attended a driving school or have recent experience. Only those with a long layoff will be run through PSD as a refresher course.

In the OP's case, he has 3-months recent experience with another carrier. That will get him straight into the TnT program.

You're coming into the TnT training program as a B-seat... which will get you the $600 guaranteed wage or 12-cpm over 5000 miles. All miles to the truck empty or loaded count toward your week's total. You'll come in for your orientation week, and most likely be out with a trainer by that Friday. Once you're on the truck, your hired, and wages begin when the wheels start turning. You will be required to take a DOT physical during orientation with Prime's doctor... and why wouldn't you? You'll be covered by Primes group medical plan, and the carrier is required to adequately screen all new drivers both by the insurance underwriters and the federal government.

Once again Stile you don't have a clue. ALL invitations to orientation are emailed to the prospective driver at Prime. The entire offer including initial placement, beginning wages (if applicable) and all other offers are included in the email. That's company policy at Prime to reassure the new employee of what they're getting, and to make sure that the recruiters remain above board with all potential drivers.

Generally, there's more money in training for the drivers that are comfortable trusting their life to the garbage CDL mills pump out. Pretty obvious answer, innit?

The only one making assumptions here is you, bub.

    That's scary, if true.

I've had three different Prime drives in different parts of the country tell me what a PITA it is to get reefer fuel paid for when the last driver left it on quarter tank, and one of them said he gave up trying because it's such a headache to deal with all the time.

Which was the first one I asked when I talked to a Prime driver. IDK what you are... a recruiter, perhaps?

Lame cop out. A better way to handle it would simply be to give drivers notice that excess reefer fuel usage would wind up in disciplinary action, and follow through. Prime just wanted another way into your wallet, and you swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.

I know, right? Not wanting to pay any more of the carrier's expenses than I have to just sounds so stupid, doesn't it?

If you're not a recruiter, you're destined to become one. It's in the stars, pony!

Attacking me for advising drivers to get everything from a recruiter in writing/email just gives me credibility, because that's solid advice for any & every carrier. Thanks!

    Let's see...

7 years on TTR vs. 4 months.
    15,000 posts vs. 900.
    Thanked 10,000 times vs. 600.
Helping people vs. bashing a carrier he doesn't even work for.

I know who I'm going to pay attention to.

IP's an unapologetic advocate for Prime, and I don't blame him one bit. He's driven for Prime for longer than most of us have been driving trucks. He's seen the good and bad sides of the company, and isn't afraid to call them out on it if needed. He's always willing to help a new driver, even if they drive for a different company. And I can tell you he's not "driving a desk"; he's out on the road; I met him in PA a couple of weeks ago.

So, Stile, what positive posts have you made recently?

    Liar.

You'd have your answer if you had done the lightest of research.

Criticizing someone you know nothing about based on your opinion that person is criticizing a company they know nothing about. Do I even need to point out the obvious?

Okay, so maybe you consider rounding 6 years, 10 months to 7 years as lying.

Actually, I did a quick look over your recent posts. Saw a bunch of negatives (like the ones here), some neutral (like status updates on the JCT forum), and maybe one or two that if you squint and hold your tongue in just the right position, could be considered positive.

I did notice that you didn't answer my question.

Actually, I was simply making observations. If you take someone asking a question as criticism, that's on you.
