And having a in-cab tyre pressure monetoring system is the icing on the cake.
I have one and since then no more blowouts.
Unless you wreck the tyre on a curb or something like that, you allways have enough warning to intervene before a blowout happens.

I check my pressure daily. Didn't prevent the one blowout I had but sometimes tires will just blow matter what you do.

Leaving recaps out off this, all the blowouts i have had in the past were from debris picked up while driving.
A bold or nail goes in the tire,it deflates and blows.
The monetoring system tells you when you start to lose pressure.

    I wouldn't spend a single $ on a system that wasn't in cab.

The big gasoline companies started using them out west some time ago. They started around the 1989's-1990's. There are a couple of major points why they use them. For one they save one weight. That means more product you can load which means more money the company makes. I have never figured the weight savings but it's up there. And when you add up your fleet you pay for the extra cost in no time. The other major issue is with the center of gravity. The axle area is wider which lowers the COG which prevents rollovers. However, I would never run these OTR. Availability can be a problem and we all know when it ain't moving it ain't making.

I've run them for some 15 years or so and have never had a problem. But that's local with our own mechanic on call. It very rarely snows in Las Vegas but anyone that lives there can tell you the first rain (or when it hasn't rained for awhile) will cause the streets to be very slick due to the oil build-up. It's like driving on ice and I've seen tons of accidents on the city streets until that oil film is washed away. Then again with the truck being empty the tires will lock up and you'll skid, just like ice. However, soon after we started to run SS we also went with the ABS. ABS only works like it should when you have the trailer set up for your truck. Dropping and hooking you'll be lucky to get a set that works as advertised. So our truck and trailers were always a set and the brakes worked like a gem. I would recommend SS if running local and not if OTR. It would be a hard challenge to compared breakdowns to weight savings over a period of time. I just do not think it would be worth it.

fwiw- i have never been passed by a truck running super singles and i pass those that run them on both truck and trailer and still have two more gears to go.

my question is why would you want to drive a slow truck? doing so is not unlike relegating yourself to elogs when you have a choice to run loose leaf. at least try for an outfit that lets you run the posted speed limit for most states which is 70 mph. you can then stay somewhat out of the continuous cluster.

i wonder if there are any super single trucking companies that let the truck run at least 70 mph out there?

there ya go. i just learned something. i had no idea that super singles would hold up to continuous pounding at higher speeds.just have yet to witness it.I have not had any run with me and plenty of trucks fall in behind me not unlike i fall in behind others that are bringing it on.NO tight formation stuff however. that gets everyone pulled over.

^^^^^well in all reality for the most part jus because it IS a triple digit truck doesn't mean it HAS to be run fast---Still one of the biggest reasons you see so few fast company trux.....the fact is the avg co. guy 2day--is gonna run a truck as fast as it'll go......its ashame but true
