Right been deciding if I should go lease with a comoany that has load boards first or just with own authority just trying to make sure not to have family suffer from a wrong decision. If I go with own authority I already have a second truck and a o/o to join me with his truck. So could start out with three trucks running or 2 running and a backup.
Where is everyone #3

Ruger, we crossed paths somewhere along the line.
Rugerfan Thanks this. -
You can always tell a person in a job such as Chris. When you need to be in the middle of negotiations and arguments on a daily basis you become more careful how you speak.

Well put. While I think there is value in being leased to the right carrier (PAPE), Danny is right that for the right person being independent will be the best. The key thing to remember is that being a great trucker does not make you a great business person. To have your business succeed you will need to SELL, SELL, SELL, communicate with your customers, manage cash flow, manage compliance, negotiate, etc. Lots of non-trucking skills. If you possess these skills or think you can learn, make the jump...if not find someone that can handle them for you.

That is really funny. People often notice the way I choose my words. I don't lie. This often requires choosing your words carefully. I also find the being very specific is important...to the point that it drives those around me a little crazy. LastKid...you are only seeing the tip of the iceburg.peterbilt_2005, passingthru69 and Lastkidpicked Thank this.

That's not entirely true. If you have the cash, then you can easily buy a very reliable used truck for $20-$30k that has been rebuilt. The problem is that most people these days do not have cash on hand and must finance everything. Therefore they are stuck with newer equipment and large payments that make it hard to get by. I would easily take a $25k 98-01 freightliner FLD with a rebuilt motor over anything 04+dannythetrucker and milskired Thank this.

I have a 99 Fld, but think it's worth more than 25k.. lol
