AMEN to the flatbed statement! There are a whole lot of things shipped by van, particularly LTL that should have gone flatbed. Like those miserable trailer axles for Pace Trailers. Those poor guys on the forklifts at Pace always had a hell of a time getting them out of the van. They'd be on pallets????? except they were banded very poorly, the bands would break, the axles would shift and it would take a whole lot of work to get them unloaded. Not to mention damage to the van interior, and to the axles and wheels. Guess Pace was just too cheap to spring for flatbed loads. Oh well, they are out of business at the local plant now, and have been for several years. . .

    Yes RedForeman...

There are "good" and "bad" drivers in every carrier...

Oh... yeah... You posted once that you are O/O and the way you run... but I had totally forgotten... :biggrin_25526:

Hmmm.... I smell some sarcasm here... :biggrin_25511:

Right now, I can't take my "hometime" anywhere other than where I normally do in TN... My list of things to do is all important personal stuff that will take at least 5 business days... I will have to go to Atlanta, GA next week to renew my Brazilian passport among other things... Then, back to TN to renew car registration, update "physical address" on various documents, see a doctor specialist, maybe go to dentist, pay some bills, visit a good friend, get over 3 months of mail, try to get a refund that is owed to me from 3 months ago...:biggrin_2552: etc, etc, etc... hopefully my old car is still running... No time to relax at the beach or anywhere... :biggrin_25512:

Wish I could stay on the road for 6 months or so and not have to go to my "hometime location"... I get very tired of this "hometime ritual" as I call it...
But without giving more details, this is what I need to be doing at this point in life...

Gonna grab breakfast in the AM, do my paperwork and then go boating the rest of the day.

Not at all. Driving big miles and staying out for weeks is just not my cup of tea. Seriously. My hat's off to those that do it. What I do isn't any better or worse, just different and suits me better.

That's a lot of stuff to cram into a week. Doesn't leave much time to unwind. Then again, I can't say having an actual home and being there a lot more often adds huge amounts free time. By the time I get caught up on sleep, business paperwork and errands, a few truck maintenance chores, it's about time to go again.

I didn't know you could do consulate business in Atlanta. Is that new? When I visited Brazil in 2008 I had to go to Miami to get my work visa. Not enough advance notice to do it by mail or via an agency. My employer had an office in Boca Raton, so at least I was able to meet with some project stakeholders while staying overnight to get my passport back with visa stamps the next day.

You know, I used to think that. But then there's many places that are a lot worse. For example, I'd rather be at Aldi's than at Sysco or Safeway. In fact, I'd rather get a root canal than go to Sysco or Safeway. Although I'm sure Aldi's saves zillions of dollars by not striping or lighting the dock areas at their DC's, it's not so bad. They're consistent and I haven't had any really bad encounters with security or the lumpers. Center Valley does suck a little since they quit allowing overnight parking, no doubt due to the "my parking place is my urinal and dumpster" crowd.

Thanks for the link. I was mistaken. I looked at the link and was reminded of why I had to go to Miami. The Atlanta consulate only returns passports with visa stamps by mail, and there is no quote of turnaround time for processing. In order to wait and pick mine up in person the next day, I had to visit the Miami office. Incidentally, Miami only does in person delivery, no mail service.
