I have a titanium plate and screws holding my neck together also. If you dont mind me asking you are you running flatbed to Alaska? And how do you find it effects your driving. I had to take a forced disability retirement from a chemical plant i was working at 10 yrs ago and am trying to come back to work in the trucking industry. I drove once a long long time ago and enjoyed it but my kids were so young that was one of two bad things about it..the other being I was working for C R England.....lol

I run a 53' reefer to and from Alaska. Where the road is really bad I will wear a soft collar to help stabilize my neck. It helps not being a bobble head for hours. I also have a girl friend that was an athletic trainer for years and is now a PA that works with a spine surgeon. She has me doing a lot of different stretches to help with my neck. The hit I took going down to Kenai really scared me. I thought for sure it would be the end of my driving career. I had numbness in both arms again. After talking to the gf after it happened she scared the living hell out of me of all the other things that could go wrong. When she got done telling me about the loss of bladder and bowel control I barely heard her mention the last one which was stop breathing.
Needless to say I was lucky and none of those happened. The latest MRI shows the disc below my fusion going flat, but everything has calmed down again.
We are going to GATS in August and I am looking at buying a Bose ride seat or similar to help with my neck. The new truck with the longer wheelbase has improved me feeling better as well. I have a thread about me going to Alaska in the refrigerated forum with some pictures, movies and things that have happened to me.

I'd actually heard it from my dispatcher originally and was confirmed by a driver so I never looked it up on my own. They likely were confused about the 24 hour break thinking it was to be a 34 hour reset. We don't carry paper logs with us and are only required to keep 8 days under U.S. law but I'm going to ask if we keep 14 days with our logs for when I go to Canada next.

Yes, you must have 14 days worth of logs in Canada. That's a favourite for scales to nab American drivers on. Of course, if you're on elogs, they're not only acceptable, but it's simple to do.

I did an oversize load to Halifax, NS and we were required to stop at every scale in NB and NS to check our permits and not once did they ask for our logs. They would have killed us if they had done so.

Same thing happens to me hauling O/S state-side; they all want to see the permits, but almost never ask for logs.
And that's a good thing.
Truth be told, logs are almost a non-issue because of the travel curfews and restrictions in the U.S. Western Canada, especially Alberta, is a different story. -
My wife is a PA as well but she had two primary care clinics that she is the provider for here in rural North Carolina dividing her time between them each week. She has seen me suffer but it was never really my neck the surgeon damaged my Brachial Plexus during surgery to the extent it disabled me and I had to have a morphine pump imbedded in my abdomen for chronic pain relief. That was 9 yrs ago and I am slowly weaning off the morphine so I can pass the physical the fall to go to CDL school again. I would be interested to know if you buy that Bose ride seat and how that works out. I would like to have one also if I come back to the industry. Only time will tell. They definitely aren't cheap.
