Throwing tarps

We don't tarp.... Period.

Boss picked up a load this morning and they wanted it tarped... It's a freaking log cabin!

He told them NO! we don't tarp EVER!

They still loaded it. I think we may have a tarp somewhere, but it is not near our trucks. Hell, we have enough crap to carry.

 

Funny thing is we have literally dozens of guys in their late 60s and even mid 70s here at Mercer that still pull open freight and manage to do it everyday. And yet all these twenty to thirty year olds cry about how they can't do it. It will be a cold day in hell before I tell some 75 year old man my back or shoulder hurts to much to do something he does week in and week out.

 

Go read the list of existing ailments that the OP listed before condemning him or the posters who responded in what you might feel as a NEGATIVE manner

 

OP,look for a tanker job.
Starting flatbed now,in your state off health would not be a smart move.

 

every situation is different , I will try tarping someone else truck ones or 2 times just to get the feel of it I am sure they are going to glad they found a volunteer ha ha , happy trucking

 

My comment wasnt directed At the op specifically. Was more towards a lot of other people I hear, on this forum and out on the road. fact is, if someone is in good enough shape to drive a truck, they can strap and chain and spread tarps.

 

At the same time we have all seen drivers that managed to drive into and park at a truck stop, but can barely walk across the parking lot and climb back into their truck ( thank god they did not have a COE ) with back and leg ailments let alone throw tarps & chains around. So lets be realistic that FLAT BEDDING is not for everyone who can drive a TRUCK.

 

Isn't it against dot rules to be handicapped and hold a cdl?

 

there are reg's, but you can file for a waiver. I can't remember what he said about it, it may have taken some time or required a hearing or something. But I do know he had documentation in his wallet just in case he was questioned.

 

There are waivers available. I worked with a guy that was missing his lower leg from a motorcycle crash. You'd never know it unless he showed you. He could work right next to you unloading our freight and fully do the job, on top of driving his 13 speed.
