FINALLY got caught up. :biggrin_1square5: On the other thread I went a while without reading, then found I deleted my bookmark. I went back waaaaay too far and decided, why not, re-read it to be sure you didn't miss anything.

I get to within 30-40 pages and see the thread was locked. Finished the last thread (posted here with the pic of the TransAm truck) then began this thread.

FINISHED!! Boy, this thread talks real fast. :biggrin_255:

I'm a big fan of all you guys. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have jokes to clean up so I can post them...lol.

Two things I knew about but did not have a real sense of the scope until I started as an OTR driver:

    1) Number of Prisons/Correctional Institutions/Jails – I had read that America has one of the largest inmate populations Per capita in the world. I really get a sense of it from driving around the country. It seems I can not make a turn down a secondary highway or sometimes even from the Interstate and not see the big mass of razor wire and guard towers of a prison.

    2) Number of Amish/Mennonites/Anabaptists - I was in northern Missouri, near the Iowa border a few days ago, I saw 4 sets of horse drawn carriages within about 5 miles. I have seen them from western New York to Eastern Colorado. I really don't know the difference between someone who is Amish or Mennonite, etc. For the record I have no problem with any of them. They seem like they would be great neighbors and they add character to the rural American countryside. I think the are charming in the superficial way that I know them, I just did not know there where so many around.

There you are, passport! I was wondering about you! Northeast corner of Missouri? I can't think of the name of the town up that way but I believe that is the largest Old Order Amish community in Missouri. My neighbors a few farms up the road are Amish. Although it is a small community in this area, they are well known for their craftsmanship and carpentry work.

Pete, they weren't working the westbound side?

the biggest difference between amish and mennoite for us outsiders
is mennonites use electricity and drive cars

All the different sects of Christianity comes from mans interpretation of the Bible
The Episcopals and Church of England were first Protestants splitting from the Catholics
and so it goes with assembly of god believing in speaking in tongues
and the amish clinging to the bible passage be not of the world

And then there are the many different sects of Amish .....Old Order Amish, Amish, Beachy Amish, etc.etc. Each community has a bishop and deacons that decide what is acceptable and what is not.
My neighbors do not drive cars, but have really nice John Deere tractors!

Tom, Dick, and Harry went to a party. After the party they returned to the hotel. The hotel was 600 stories high. Unfortunately for them, the elevator was not working. They made a plan for the first 200 stories, Tom will crack jokes. For the second 200 stories Dick will telll a happy story, and lastly, Harry will tell a sad story. They then started up the stairs. After 2 hours it was Harry's turn. He turned to the other two and said, "I forgot the keys downstairs." :biggrin_25523:
