Hiya HTQI am still around, still driving the 680. They keep routing me toward Olathe, so I keep thinking I am being called in to turn this truck in but at the last minute, something keeps coming up to send me back outbound again before I make it to Olathe.
The place I saw so many Amish this last time, and I do think they where Amish, was north central Missouri. US - 63, near the town of Lancaster, Missouri. I know Lancaster County Pennsylvania has a large Amish contingent, so maybe the name is not a coincidence. In general, I am also surprised to see so many at modern places like inside truck stops (4 wheeler side) and McDonald's, etc.

jungHo, Panhandle flash and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
I was looking at your pictures and the contrast in modern culture is really striking.....a prison and an Old Order Amish buggy. They are great pictures by the way. There may be some connection in the name between the two Lancasters. My neighbors shop at the local Dollar General and WalMart in Springfield. They hire a driver when they go into Springfield. Where are you now, passport?
I wonder where Panhandle is this evening? I didn't hit him too hard with that lightning bolt! ...Just enough to teach him not to talk about me flying around on a broom!passport220 Thanks this. -
^ Central Illinois, bound in the direction of Olathe again. We shall see if I make it this time.

I saw this earlier this evening ....I think two firefighters were injured before it was all said and done. Why are there so many truck fires happening? I see several every week. Batteries? Inverters? Wiring?

This was in the finance section -
Shares in Swift Transportation, the largest truckload carrier in North America, were down 14% Friday after management warned it was going to have to invest more to address a driver shortage.
The New Jersey-based firm now says it's going to have to spend more on wages and training to hold onto and attract more drivers.
...We were constrained in the truckload and (central refrigerated systems) segments by the challenging driver market. Our driver turnover and unseated truck count were higher than anticipated. Therefore, we sold more trucks in the second quarter to offset the impact of idle equipment, which drove additional gains on sale of equipment this period. After assessing the current and expected environment, we believe the best investment we can make at this time, for all of our stakeholders, is in our drivers. Our goal is to clear the path for our drivers by helping them overcome challenges, eliminate wait times and take home more money.
It now sees "cost headwinds" going into the second half of the year.
The American Trucking Association has warned the country is short 30,000 drivers, and that the gap could climb to 200,000 in the next decade.jaso36 Thanks this.
