    Steelie Car Mount by NiteIze

Figured I'd post this recommendation for anyone who's looking for a good dash mount for their cell phone, tablet, GPS, dash cam, etc. I just bought it from a Flying J for like $30. Works far better then any of those plastic junk ones at all the truck stops. Definately gonna buy another ball mount for my personal vehicle. I have an LG G2 with a thick Trident case and it does a great job on firmly holding it in place, easy to adjust, and easy to remove and apply to ball mount. It uses a slim magnet/cup that is adhered to the back of your device and a separate steel ball/mount that is adhered to your dash. Pretty cool design.

I'm not sure I would like the magnet permanently attached to my phone. Other than that it looks cool. It looks like there are 3 models available ranging from $17-27 at Walmart.
Here's a video to get a better perspective.

Yea, I don't think I'd actually stick the thing to my phone itself. I'd recommend using a case for it.

I looked at this and my brain went "nopenopenopenopenope" But I'm glad it work well for you.

If it was built into a case in some way so it didn't stick out I might consider it.

Does it hold things well? Like not turn at slight angels? Or do you have to make sure there is no pull on the charging cable at all?

It can handle some pull but not a lot. It doesn't budge on bumpy roads with my phone plugged in sitting upright. I couldn't mount the magnet on the center of my case so the heavier side of the phone will start to rotate down on bumps when I have the phone sideways. I just position my charging cable in a way that somewhat supports it. The magnet has a rubber piece in the center that keeps the phone from moving when mounted.

Also, my phone is one of the larger cell phones and has a thick rubber and plastic case that makes it pretty #### heavy. Phone doesn't budge on the mount whatsoever unless I have it mounted sideways (due to magnet not being centered on case.

Thank you for answer my question. With what you say I think a rammount is still a much better investment though those things aren't cheap. Even more so when you need some crazy arms.

while it's nice to have options over the lousy suction cups that don't last. that phone magnet would have to be very thin.

phones are getting bigger. most people won't want that 1/8 inch protusion.

i'd like to have it sit on the top of the dash. so i can use mine as a dash cam along with my gps.

Get a 3d printer and head over to thingiverse. Download what ever you want and you can build one yourself. How is that for a worthless idea?
