Is it just me or "rudeness taking over"?

    Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

Driving down I-95 yesterday in Georgia, I stopped at a Pilot to take on fuel, it about 12:30Pm, lunch time for many, just fuel time for many others.

There are 8 fuel islands here, all 8 of them are full, pretty normal for this time of day. The differance here is that 6 of the 8 are drivers who are parked in the fuel bays blocking the fuel islands while getting there lunch inside.

There is nothing special about me, no super trucker or anything like that, just a guy who has put on some miles and is wondering "why park in the fuel island to get something to eat Vs park elsewhere, like the parking lot (which had several spaces available), take your time, get the meal of your choice, chat with another driver about your/his/her day, relax for a few minutes, stretch and let your meal digest before heading out again".

This would certainly be a lot better than blocking the fuel island for somebody who is really there to "buy some fuel".

Please understand, this is not only directed at the new(er) driver but those of us who might also have a mile or two under there belt as well.

For me, the guy who usually always waves when you go by or I go by you and nearly always flashes on/off my headlights (not the brights) as you pass and are about to re-enter the lane I am in and ALWAYS flashes my clearance lights after passing you to thank you for taking that instant out of your day to let me know "it is clear to move over".

Thanks for reading and I hope that you have a great day driving in the best part of the world, the part we live in. I'll be looking for that wave and the flash of your lights as we meet again, hopefully not at the fuel island while I wait for you to get some lunch.

Your not alone. Rude, ignorance and the like are taking over little by little as time passes by. It's not just in the trucking industry either, it's all over the place!

I think it has to do with the "dumbing down" of America over the last several decades... and what we have here are the results.

I watched two foreign drivers sit at the pump at a Pilot in LA washing their POS International cabover with the window squeegee while a pumpkin truck was behind them waiting to fuel. They saw the guy and just kept on scrubbin!

That was a very patient Schneider driver, cause I would have gotten out and said something in a language that everybody could have understood.

I have gotten sprayed many times at the truck washes that are located at the fuel pumps. I have never understood the need for it.

Thanks Blue, Road, Stumble, Red, Road, Pan & Neal,

Your right, it isn't just the trucking industry, it is "all over", but each day I still try and overcome this with a little kindness to as many as I can. Somedays it is a little harder to do than others, I can get into a mood, try not too, but still can.

That "Me Generation" is a upcoming thing, I have seen it in my grown son & daughter, they don't like my take on the situation either, they haven't called for awhile either, I'm sure the problem is with "me"......

Stumble, I'm perplexed with your situation, I guess I see you in a "double left turn lane" with another driver on your left and as you both start your left turn, he runs into your trailer and you get a citation? In the hopes of not hijacking this thread, what were you cited for? Was the other driver cited and if so, what for?

I really was trying to hide my thoughts on the drivers who may be from another culture or who just don't understand, don't know any differant or are just plain "rude". It is really up to us who "know better" to share our wisdom with them, in the best way you can muster!! Spraying them down with the water hose and pooking them with a aluminum window washer pole might be "best" but not proper way to educate.

It really is an educational thing, it is harder for me sometimes to educate Vs just letting it go, move over the the next island and "glare". By this time, the offending folks are just wondering "what's his problem"...

Pan, I don't like the "Me" Phrase, I really hope that I don't have it.

Neal, your thread is correct, that pretty much is the way that it is, sorry state of affairs isn't it.

Thanks for those who replied, I should probably go back into "lurk mode".

Have a great day and go out there and EDUCATE!!

your right, rudeness is rampant! when did it start? I don't know for sure. The eighties? thats when I started noticing it. And I don't know who is to blame,or the cure, shot of a trip to jail for assualt. But I do know that it should be confronted when possible. It might be ignorance,or a lack of time spent thinking things through before taking action. My grandfather told me "ignorance is cured by knowledge, stupid is cured by the undertaker". Maybe if enough people pointed out the mistakes these people are making, it would dawn on them, maybe not. but seems worth the effort to me. Have a great day and take the extra second to think about your actions and their effect on others before acting:biggrin_2558:
