Well the climate is pretty mild here so I think they run nearly year round although I'm sure more in the Summer when construction is at it's peak.
Chip hauling is year round full time and permanent, same as I do now but with a smaller better paying company.
The mild climate here West of the Cascades has it's benefits despite a lot of rain,it rarely snows or freezes hard here aside from the mountain passes.
I only threw iron twice last year, two days in a row from the same storm and the year before I made it all year barefoot'n it.

Gravel job will slow some and you would be the nfg. Getting tired of cleaning chips out of your pockets? Had 1 of your professionals blow a construction zone @ speed the other day. He got a call in. Nice. No reflection on the other hands @ the flying w.

I've noticed that out here. Nobody wants to pay anything. A job back east pays a lot more than out here for the same thing.

We have some great drivers and some not so great drivers.
We had a truck roll on it's side coming out of Astoria last week on the 30,I was surprised as it was one of the guys who is from there and with 12 years in at W.
Week before we had one of the solid waste division guys jackknife on the 84,been a couple bad weeks for W.

Anyway not tired of chips, looking a lot harder at another chip hauler than the sand & gravel thing.
Closer to home, better pay, nicer equipment and from what I've heard they treat their drivers well.
Seems like a no brainer, that said I'm just getting my foot in the door, there's no indication they are hiring currently.

What about benefits? Is that calculated in with the better pay thing?

That's a good question,I got some info and I think my current medical is a little better but not a lot, company pays 90% on me but I pay for the wife.
Still need to run some numbers when I find out how much their plan costs,I'm paying about $600 a month now mostly to cover the wife.
They said they pay 50% for the driver and I'd have to pay for the wife but I don't know how much their plan costs yet.
Other than medical I currently have a paid vacation and the major holidays, pretty sure they are the same.
