hi guys. we had a freightliner FLA hi top cabover fall in our lap. it needs some work, but i like it. it has the 350hp 11.1L detroit. my favorite engine, but i'd like a 12.7. are the blocks between the two the same? meaning, will a 12.7 directly swap in place of an 11 liter?

    thanks much!

as far as I know yes and the 12.7 could be turned the 12.7 into a 14L when you go to overhaul the 12.7, just order the kit for a 14L meaning pistons and liners.

Back in 1998 my boss changed his bought/new 11.1 into a 12.7 when it needed a inframe and it was 6 different parts that had to be order extra to make the change up.

No a 11,1 is a four cyl 677 cubic inch engine and 12.7 and 14 are 6 cylinders. You can get it in but more trouble than its worth. Anybody that has a series 60 engine change that fuel inlet onback of head to quarter inch galv pipe and you'll will be amazed at amount of fuel you get. Only cost about 4 dollars.

Note the sizes those are all different blocks and 11.1 is only a four cylinder.

Anybody here ever drove a 335 cummins, or an 8V92T detroit. I got one a 1693 caterpillar those were to reliable they had to stop making those. Oh well no more big strappers.

The eng. Ristow is working with is the early 6 cil. they were some of the 1st to go with ECM. and would only idle 3min then shut down if driver forgot to set rpm up a few rpm many at 1st were jump off with lights an blowers running while drivers ran inside for a stop.
