I drove for UPS for 7 years, the union fee is only a percentage of what you make hour... I was at top pay around $24 and I was paying like $12 a week... You don't really feeling, but with that UPS is one of the few companies that offer full benefits for free... My plan is to get a little more experience and into UPSF since I've only been driving rigs for a month

I don't believe 2 hours of pay per month is a "healthy chunk". Do you live on $100 a month??? Besides most intelligent people know you can write your dues off on your taxes..

Not too many contractors are running to UPSF, especially since they are only paying 91 CPM. If they do contract on they can't be too business oriented. You can't run a profitable business on that rate, unless you like living in poverty.

Trouble seeing the forest for the trees here.
But who needs pension, medical, vacations, and paid holidays, right?

Did you miss the political part? Although I agree that "2 hours pay per month" is not a huge amount in general, why would anyone want any of their hard earned money to be used to support a Far-Left and corrupt political agenda as many unions are doing? It's the principal of what the monies are being used for, but we also know a lot of union members will act like puppets and simply do what they're told because of the greed factor. Sad but 100% true.

Did you miss the job with benefits part?

Food on my table and quality of employment trumps politics any day of the week.
I get your point about fat union bosses and political agendas -- I worked in Washington for years.
But to say it's only left-wingers who have an agenda is totally naive and misses the point, as if both sides don't so the same thing all the time.

I would say that union members will vote in their own interests because they can. It's absurd to think any of us would't do the same thing to keep what we have. To call looking out for ourselves and wanting to keep what we have "greedy" is disingenuous and misleading at best, IMO.

Unions are not inherently bad, but lots of Americans have been programmed by their media talking heads of choice into being knee-jerk, "UNIONS BAD!, HERPA-DERP!, OMG! OMG! UNIONS BAD!!!111!1!1one" as soon as they hear the word.

Unions built a strong middle class after World War II.
Now, not so much because who needs pensions and benefits, right?
Everybody wants something for near nothing, including cheap freight, so pay the driver as little as possible to maximize profits and screw those dirty unions, right? This right wing agenda pushes down driver wages and benefits across the industry, maximizes corporate profits, and takes money out of drivers' pockets for things like food and medical care, since they have to pay for that out of pocket.

$62 a month to have free insurance for myself and my family, free pension when I retire and most importantly a voice in my work place. It doesn't take an accountant to see that this is a great investment with my $62. I doubt with 4 years of experience UPS would consider hiring you anyway. You can choose to stay away from a great paying job because of your anti union views if you want, but most non union truckers take a Union job because "usually" they pay well above what "most" non union jobs pay, even with the $62 a month in Union dues. I'm not at my job for political views, I'm there to work and be paid well to do it.

Greed is clearly one very nasty trait... and it's also large part of why the political lefties are destroying this country, as illustrated by the last two posts.
