The contract companies usually do that. Depends on re-stacking, bad wood, pinwheel load, etc.
-
It just seems to me that it would be easy to "accidently" break a few pallets and charge for bad wood unless you were inside babysitting the offload. Then again if it were coming out of my pocket I wouldn't hire lumpers and offload myself.

I know I've been off the road for a heck of a long time, but this is the first I ever heard of this. Not quite sure how I would handle it, but just reading it makes me uncomfortable as heck!FatDaddy Thanks this.

Taking a break at the TA in Baldwin, FL off I-10. Unloading went VERY fast today; I think because the company pushed "just in time" a little too far and they would have shut down for the day without my load. I took my break a little early so I can get back in synch with my pick up tomorrow evening in Valdosta GA. I've managed to make up about half of the time my shipper put me behind this weekend.

I ran into this one other time. In that instance they came out halfway through the offload and gave me the price. Got my express code and went into pay after getting the green light only to be told that I was being charged an extra $20 for broken pallets. Wasn't my fight but I let the company know the deal and was prepared for them to not approve it. To my surprise they did, I guess they know how to pick their battles, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

This is just an observation and a curiosity... when folks here say that if they were running close to their home, they would stop by their place just for one night sleep in their beds... I think... is it only the bed or is there more? Are their beds in the truck sooo bad that they would go home just for one night sleep?
I can understand... if one doesn't have to go too far to get home and can park the truck right next to their house without problem and have some nice meal waiting for them on the table, and shower and someone happily waiting for them in bed... that might be a good reason to sleep at home instead of in the truck... and maybe that's what they mean...
