Yeah, well sometimes the trainee is the only one who thinks he's ready.
Seen too many instances where the trainee has to admit he hits something. Was given a responsibility and fails miserably.... like getting himself up on time for his shift to roll or check in at a customer and decides to sleep in or not set alarm. Trainee disappearing at truck stop and not ready to roll when a load comes in. Told to be ready at a certain time to be picked up off home time and can't be reached, running late or any of a number excuses. Or basically showing lack of initiative in taking charge of day to day responsibilities
All experiences Ive had with trainees. And when confronted with the facts, had very little leg to stand on when they felt they should be upgraded the moment they hit the MINIMUM... (THERE IS ONLY A MINIMUM NUMBER... no such thing as a max)
Go to Steve Larson... better have your facts straight, better not waste his time.
The best question is when they ask the trainee how many miles he has accumulated and he hasn't had the sense to keep track himself and comes up a couple thousand miles short of even the minimum. Your fleet knows you are a moron if you're the guy calling every week asking "how many miles do I have?"

Im sure the OP is guilty of all of those things. If we have no prof or reason to believe so then we should assume it because thats the case with some trainees so it must be the case here. We should also let this person know what we assume about them by implying it in posts like yours. Thats what your message conveys to me. Is that really the way you wanted to come across? Id like to think that it isnt. You know you could have stated all your ideas without coming across in way that you did had you changed the presentation of your message a bit. Tone it down a little guy. The OP does mention that they are not getting any feedback from the instructor or the FM as to how they are doing good or bad. The trainee deserves to be given clear and concise reasons why they are not ready so that they have an idea of what they need to improve upon. The absence of that information is my first red flag that somethings not going the way its supposed to.Last edited: Jul 30, 2014

Should be in communication frequently with FM.
If this isn't happening, probably large part of problem right there.loinheart Thanks this. -
I agree, but can you show me a quote from this trainee that gives you the idea that, thats whats happening here?loinheart Thanks this.

It's more what he didn't say... Has asked his trainer or FM what he needs to improve so he can get approval to upgrade? Has he contacted his fleet manager directly to make sure that everyone is on the same page? Your trainer and FM presumably pay trainees the same, it's kinda silly to think that they're holding you back for the money, when the next guy is going to train at the exact same rate. Plus, if you're going company they'll make plenty of money off of the work you do.loinheart Thanks this.

Not at all, and I sure don't know that.
Too little information given for anybody to know anything of what's really going on, but good replies given to address any potential problem.
Only said "38,000 & FM 'seems' to want him out for more". Not clear if that was from his communication or just inference. Thus, my mention of importance of communication with FM.
I do know plenty of folks that did many more miles than required before coming in. Both from FM/trainer decision, and also self choice.
Definately hope it works out for the best, though.Last edited: Jul 31, 2014

Come on Chuck, You know as well as I do that there are alot of operators out there who are pushing profitt. Yes sometimes you get the trainee with the issues and I have had them also, One reason why I no longer train, but at 38k if he ain't got it, he needs to go home, If he does have it, let him upgrade. I try to operate from a position of honesty until someone gives me a reason not too. Have a good eveningKC63, Highway101 and loinheart Thank this.

My only question is did he go the ought the PSD program?
loinheart Thanks this. -
