I think so, seems this load we're under has got to be there by 12noon or they won't take it, and they don't receive on Fridays. My trainer thinks we will get a load of slinkies after this and get back to the Detroit area, then possibly get a load of of Detroit into home for the weekend. Will wait and see. We're stopped if for the night at last of the service plazas on i80 westbound before Indiana. Got about 300 miles left in the morning.

Sounds doable. Especially if you only need a 6 hour break. Slinkies aren't as bad as people say, it took me a while to get the pull the front back, and the back forward, but that's just cause I over think. They usually don't ride too bad though. Keep up the good work though.

We ended up at charter steel picking up some spare rod. It goes to Warren Michigan then we pickup our load to home. This week's not been bad, couple of disagreements with the way my trainer does things with the way I want to do things. Nothing major that can't be discussed. Our load of steel pipe that went to Milwaukee was the hardest place so far. Having to 45 degree back in off the street with a pissed off Puerto Rican mail lady waiting for me to get done so she can get by, and a dock worker who was trying too direct me and he couldn't speak a lick of English. Over all, not a bad week. I got around 3500 miles total with about 1200 in this week.

The nice thing about the Detroit area...There is ALWAYS freight coming out of there. Unfortunately it's coils and other types of steel, but hey, it's good training, and it pays the darn bills. Disagreements definitely happen, it's how the world turns. Luckily, you're both men and can chat it out and come to a common ground. That's part of being a trainer, you gotta know how to handle things.

We can talk about it, but its his truck, and it's nothing that I can't do because it's guys truck. Once I'm on my own I'll do things my way.

Oh yeah, our load today is AK steel in Woodbridge oh....I'm told its gonna suck for hours our it could go quick.

Well I can say this AK Tube/Steel a bunch of lazy #####. The guy loading us says he doesn't want to load us because we are 3 hours early. Says he will because his 130pm appt is late, so we got lucky. This tool is taking steps across the lot like my 8yr old takes when she's pouting. It's rather pathetic

So this week was a bit of a mess. With one load needing to be reconsigned because the shipper had the wrong address, and the wrong contact number, to sitting at AK Tube in Toledo with a dock worker who seemed to have to much love for the attitude that is instilled by their union. We got home, and im here for a 3 day. My trainer needs to take his sick aunt to the doctor on monday, so I get to sit at home monday and do a check call with my training coordinator Jamie. All in all was a decent week. I got some drive time in Chicago. You really got to have a serious mental condition if you want to drive on I94 downtown. I ended this week with close to 4000 miles total under me. I had one backing manuver that required me to back into an alley from a busy street, and in doing so I had to deal with a Cuban or Puerto Rican mail carrier that was giving me all kinds of love or hate in Spanglish because i was causing issues with her being slow on her route. Personally I didnt give a ####. My first setup i blew it, my second required me to turn around and reset up, I ended up nailing it that time. Personally I had plenty of room to make the shot with a blind side, but my trainer refused to let me and made me do a 45 back on the drivers side. It annoyed me, as I know I couldve made it blind side, with relatively no issues, all I wouldve done was GOAL several times to make it happen.

In the end it was a good week, however my trainer is starting to ware on me. His little intricacies are starting to annoy me, he has OCD at times when it comes to tarping. Load securement I'm good on, and he says he thinks I am along the same lines of thinking when it comes to load securement. Its really nothing that I cant deal with for the next 3 weeks or so, but it does get on my nerves at times.

I've been following this thread and IMHO Gunner has a first rate trainer! Your trainer was absolutely correct not letting you back in on the blind side! The driver who trained me many years ago told me the only time you back on the blind is if that's the only way to get where you have to be! And if you have the option of backing on the blind loaded or empty you do it empty. This advise served me well for many years after!
It never ceases to amaze me when drivers (TMC drivers are the biggest culprits but not the only ones) come into the yard where I jockey and end up backing into a dock or parking space and end up on the blind in a wide open yard. It does make for some free entertainment though!
Listen to this man Gunner and you should do well out there on the highways and byways of the US of A!

My backing acident, (years ago) was blind side backing.....Unless there is no other way, dont ever blindside. Even if it means going to a wider part of the lot and doing a uturn so you can approch from a better angle, dont blind side.
