Darn shame they didn't leave Central alone. I'd probably still be there.

That old trailer I had the other day that had bent pins. I didnt notice it until the trailer shop pointed it out but it was cracked in several places on the passenger side of the tandems frame. It also had a really crappy weld job there. I am lucky dot didnt catch me:/. I learned one thing to look for when doing a walk around inspection of a trailer. Still how the heck does the frame crack like that. Was it because its one of our dick simon trailers?

Most of the Simon trailers are long gone, but here's how you can tell if it's an old Simon trailer left over:

The numbering system used to be a 48 dash or a 53 dash followed by a four digit number.

So a 53-1224 would be a fifty three foot trailer and a 48-5477 would be a forty eight footer. We even ran 50 foot trailers for a while hauling paper. 50-4577

It would seem the infection known as Swift has permiated beyond the operations at central. Since the integration of Central into Swift, the posts here on this thread have dwindled to almost nothing. It is really too bad too, I enjoyed reading all of the posts here on this thread concerning new experiences and all that. But, here we are and I have checked this thread every day for the past week and no posts. I guess they really do live up to their name S.W.I.F.T. See What I ###### up Today.

Even making 1.75 a mile IS NOT WORTH IT!! I can't believe the amount of L/O I see at swift and central, and I wonder how so many guys get "swifted" into such a bad deal. I can do simple number crunching that tells me any load paying under 1.80 equals the same as what a company driver stands to make(depending on what company) but these mega carriers pay there drivers a FLAT RATE. Do you honestly think that they get paid the same for each load you haul for them? NO! And at .90 CPM plus whatever FSC is it's a RIP OFF!! how do so many guys go into this and not know? This benefits the company, NEVER the driver. For example my company would pay me a flat rate of 79% of the haul, so on a trip that pays 3,000 my cut would be 2,370. Ok... It's a 980 mile trip so that particular trip would pay me 2.41 a mile. And my fuel being I'll say 6.8 and at a 3.65 a gallon I'm using 144 gallons to get there that's 525.60... Let's make it 600.00 to be safe because I idle that will leave me with 1,770 for a day and a half trip. And every trip is different! But I know atleast that anything under 1.80 isn't going to be worth it! Take a dollar off right away to the truck, and it's what you, the driver is left with. That simple math = company wins. And driver loses.... EVERYTHING.

Yup, I've been trying to tell people that. But I find most people in this trade to be complete idiots.

yes im still driving for central and in the lease. Im caught up on bills and taxes i have money in my pocket. I am pawning this lease off on a guy fresh out of school. I get away scotch free. I feel so dirty right now. My next step is i cant figure out who I want to drive for. Schneider, QC energy, NFI, Roehl, TMC, Melton, Superior Carriers are all offering me jobs, im having a hard time deciding. There all calling me every day. Are they all hurting for drivers bad? I also pulled all 5 grand out of my maintenace account ahead of time so they cant keep it, just in case they wanna be #####.

swift finally called me about the applications and flat out begged me not to leave. They said there raising my pay. Then they asked me if i would reapply as a company driver and stay on kraft dedicated. Kraft dedicated though has been great. I dont understand why the newbie the other day didnt like it. As for the guy that wants the truck im driving. I gave him some pointers on managing it. He seems to be seing all dollar signs though. Oh well though done deal im free and im running.
