something tells me coil racks would not have made much of a difference

Coil racks actually do make a heckuva difference if used properly. I use the one per 10,000lbs. minimum of three rule with mine. Add in my chains (and straps, depending on coil orientation), and I've done everything I am capable of to ensure that coil doesn't move until its time to take it off.
Without racks and lumber, it would be nigh impossible to stop that bugger from rocking and rolling, no matter how many chains you threw at it. -
right but im guessing from the pics maybe it wasn't secure correctly, if that's the case coil racks wouldn't of made a difference. I think.

Nope, probably not. No fix for stupid, as they say.

My last tractor had one,and I never had to worry about hospital linen crashing into the back of the cab.
