Hello everyone , there are a couple things I have been wondering about " Again " LOL

I have been trying to figure out the HOS. I have not spent a lot of time with this but now I am curious. Can someone on here explain the HOS , 70 hrs. and 34 hour restart.
I think I sort of understand but not real sure. Like how do you get hours back and I think I seen where some never have to do a 34 hour.
Sort of confusing and I know I will learn it in CDL school but want to know as much as possible.

Another thing is trip planning. Does TA give you a trip plan , a route you " must " follow or can you do your own. Do you mostly follow their in truck navigation ? I thought I seen where the trucks come with GPS.
And do they plan your fuel stops ? If not then how do you figure ? Someone told me 50 miles per hour is an average , but lets say I am going from Indianapolis to Laredo TX what is a good way to start my pre plan. How many miles average can you go on a tank and does TA let you get full tanks or do they make you stop more often.
If anyone has a preplan they can share or info where I can find a sample or video of pre planning. I will check You Tube and google also.

You have your basic 10-11-14. We will work of a standard 24 hour clock. If you start at 0000 you have 14 hours to complete you day so you will have to be finished by 1400 inside that 14 hours you can drive up to 11 hours. Once you either get to 11 hours of driving or get to 1400 you have to take a 10 hour break then you can start your 14 hour clock again.

70 hours in 8 days is all you get. 70 hours will include all your drive time and your on duty status. So any time you log either of these it will count against your 70. Now keep in mind most think of a regular work week(5 days) but we drive all 7 days in a week so 70 hours is really not much it averages out to 8 hours and 45 minutes a day.

When you use all 70 and have been 7 days you can do what is called a 34 hour restart. That is when you sit for 34 hours and sit for 2 consecutive 0100-0500 periods you can restart your 70 hour clock. You can only restart once a week.

Here at Trans Am company drivers must follow Trans Ams trip plans. Lease drivers can follow what ever route we deem best cause we pay for our own fuel. We all have GPS in our trucks here at Trans Am. You are suppose to plan at 50mph to account for traffic and construction zones but once you get out here you will know where you can run faster than that, I think Trans Am uses 52.5 mph for their plans. The way I was taught to trip plan is to take a ruler and put it on the 2 spots I am driving from and to and look for the shortest legal truck route. They have all sorts of truck stop guides so you should be able to find some along your route plus now you can use apps to find truck stops along your route.

I know I did not explain everything and some will add in but I hope I gave you a general idea.

I did not get into split breaking as I think you should be more experienced when doing that but that is just me

Thanks Jaso , I thought that was probably how it worked. I remember the 34 hour and 2 days 0100 to0500.
I think this is all pretty basic but good to know ahead of time.

Despite sitting in Amarillo last Friday night until 8pm, was able to get over 2800 miles. Only broken 3000, just once. Meathouses. Oh well, can't complain. Getting unloaded little by little in Mauldin SC. Only have ten hours between today and tomorrow. Then 10 plus Sunday and Monday when I head to the house. No preplan here, but got a preplan when I go back out next Friday. Baxter Healthcare in Marion NC, up to Champlin MN. Last time I got this assignment, the load cancelled when I got to Kenly NC. Hoping it does not cancel as I have never been to Minnesota or Wisconsin either. Yeah, its on my "bucket" list along with The Dakotas, Montana and Vermont. Abilene took care of the western 12 and now TransAm is filling in the middle quite nicely. Deuces gang.'m

Also, our e-logs also do not handle split breaks in anyway that I have learned about. Maybe Jaso could, but I could not explain how e-logs split breaks work it if I tried.

In addition if you hit the i button for information about how many hours you will gain after 8 hours on sleeper birth, for example, it often will not show anything but then you will gain the hours like magic when the 8 hour period is up.

Dennis, fuel stops are planned by Trans Am. Depending on what you are loaded with, often fuel stops limit the amount of fuel to prevent trailer/or tractor from being too heavy when scaled. Sometimes the location of fuel stops may be budgeting due to better prices on fuel at given truck stops. George says planned fuel stops means less for him to have to plan.

TA pays only book miles. Most truckers would probably logically take the shortest route, however, if a longer route is taken for whatever reason, you don't get paid for all the miles of that route. As many experienced drivers have pointed out often, you can't just go by GPS directions. You need to use a laptop and actually look at the physical location of the various shippers/receivers as directions are often not accurate. Sometimes you can call the number on your preplan assignment and get more direct directions to avoid wrong turns to the office, perhaps, instead of shipper or receivers area.

it is a rainy day here, the kind for chilling & taking naps. I'm sitting on the front porch on the porch swing enjoying it, the rain, actually. It is funny, though, that when I go to post something, I have to stretch my arm, holding my tablet, to the outer area of the porch so the Internet signal will be strong enough to send my post! Must look funny if anyone observes my "stretching" frequently!!

Does anyone know, did TransAm discontinue the driver's storage room?

I was walking to the trailer shop to talk to someone about having lights fixed, I noticed the room that was once driver's storage was now completely cleared out. Did they discontinue allowing drivers to store stuff, or did they just change rooms? I was on the move and did not have time to track anyone down to ask.
