Hello all.
So im getting back into trucking and i can take the dollar tree account. Northeast dedicated. Home weekends and thats fine for me. However. Ive been doing research on werner and this acct and there sems to be alot of complaints. Now i know theres alot of whiney drivers out there who juzt wanna bump a dock. I dont mind unloading the truck. But im trying to be realistic with myself having never done this kind of freight.
Reading the werner reviews and stuff makes me nervous that i may hate it and want to leave when there are other options for me but dont pay as well. Is it possible to unload 4 trailers a week to make all this bonus trailer money? Gahh decisions decisions. I have other opps available but wanna get into a company thats sound and i can stay. Any advise is welcome!!

What's the pay like? Miles? Average time to get unloaded? If you calculate all that and are getting less than 20/hr on on-duty time forget it and go work for ups or a freight company if you don't mind loading/unloading trailers.

If you have a good driving record and are able , why not check out food service delivery....more or less just as physically demanding , but the pay and home time is much better. With most food service companies you'll only run 3 to 4 days a week and be home most nights if not everyday. I did it for 33 years and retired at 63 in 2011...it's worth a look see.
Getsinyourblood and Powder Joints Thank this. -
Check around with some other companies first; Werner and USX have huge turnovers with those type of accounts.

Uh-oh
R&r just got the "Chinatown bump"
Had an ole timer try and recruit me the other day for that place stuck in a dock.Chinatown Thanks this. -
thanks for the replies!
ok, as far as pay is concerned, the recruiter said since its a higher paying job $1100-1300 wk it doesent have a sign on bonus, and while im in training i get $450 a week and should only be in training for a week just to be shown the ropes. then, once out of training .50 per mile, plus $175 for every trailer plus safty bonus yadda yadda. its the north east dedicated out of windsor. my driving record is fine its just that havent done TT for a few years. ive driven everything imagineable from working for my dads repair shop and i used to drive frameless dump trailer hauling scrap metal/sand/demo stuff like that. ive never actually been out monday thru friday then back home on the weekend. but i have 1yo twins and could really use the money. especially in the tax u to death state connecticut. im schedualed to leave for orentation tuesday to be in PA for wednesday morning. be there for 2 days then go out with the trainer for a week, possibly 2 which i dont mind. i try to take all this negative bs with a gain of salt but its hard. what else i like is im not just sitting there driving and bumping a dock.
and theres no nyc or long island. i have chrones desease so being able to potty break is a nessesety.
thats all i can think of for now.
ps sorry about my spelling, i know i suck! -
Ok so let me put my 2 cents in here, now you state that you would make between 1100-1300 a week maybe. Well my first question is why? Why would you want to work harder to make that kind of money? Most rookies coming out of school and after training should be able to clear at least 1k a week pretty easy and all they have to do is bump a dock?
2nd you reading posts, and your gut reaction is this may not be for you....but you are still contemplating the thought.....really?
you would be better off with companies such as resers or dot foods.
stupid is as stupid does I get.....go get signed up with Werner and in about 3 months or so you'll be the next poster on how you got screwed and are now crying the blues -
ive been out of the truck for a little bit and i miss it. man, having to deal with customers on a regular day to day basis sucks, i liked driving, doing my deliveries and saying goodbye and being done. -
My brother in law is on that acct. It is hard work. He gets paid decent. Usually 12-1300.00 a week after taxes. He busts his but for every cent. It sounds like good money but the amount of work and headaches involved it's not worth it.
I make just a little bit less than that, don't unload trucks, stay in the northeast, and home every weekend (and about 1 night a week for my 10 hr. If you are dead set on werner (I would recommend listening to Chinatowns advice before going to Werner. It's not horrible but not great either) see if there are any openings on the jeld wen acct out of vt. Much much better than the dollar treeLowa3468 Thanks this. -
so true you may be peeved but the minute you post assuredly someone is going to say that you are just crying and just a hack that just didn't want to conform.
