I have a question for anyone who feels like helping me out with an answer.

I am in trucking school as we speak and was wondering ... How long before I get my licence should I wait before I start getting in touch with different companies to try and set up a pre-hire situation?

I would like to go to work as soon as I can after I get my licence.

Thank you for any info an the subject in advance. :)

doesn't hurt to start now. call the recruiters and explain your situation. most likely, some will show up at your school.

Start looking online here and at company websites to find ones you want to start at and then call recruiters at the companies to find out pay and questions now. Can't hurt

I was lined up before I finished school! now is the time to do your homework. Become as knowledgeable as possible about the companies and the type of trucking you want to do. This site is a valuable resource as well as drivers you can possible meet at the truck stops.

Start now. A pre-hire is exactly what it is. It isn't a contract, it just means that you meet that company's preliminary qualifications to attend an orientation after you get your CDL. Definitely get 2 or 3 so if one doesn't work out, you can go right into the next company's orientation. Good luck to you.

I would start talking to recruiters now and get pre-hired before graduation. I don't start my CDL school until this Monday but I was one-sided by two different companies two weeks go. Two additional companies told me to contact them as soon as school starts and they would pre-hire me then.

I had 7 prehires before I finished, and was set in stone on one of them the last week of school. Do your homework on each company prior to talking to them. Get am idea on where they stand before you sign up. And regardless, until you get to orientation, you don't have a commitment to anyone.

Thank you all for the info. I was wondering... What are some good questions to ask the recruiters so I can get the best idea about the companies?

I'm sure you'll get a lot of good suggestions on questions......Remember a recruiters job is to LURE you to their company. Try to back up whatever your told with drivers from that company. Take it all with a grain of salt!!!
