Well that is their eye to the sky, their shot gun coils get x chained, then two horseshoes. They prefer to not load them shotgun because there its less securement of the coil.
TMC does not use a horseshoe chain as part of the wll of a securement process. Because of that they prefer coils to be loaded as suicide.
Pure Genius!!!!

I see. The load securement instructor at Melton is of a similar opinion. Personally, it's always seemed to me that shotgun offers the best securement. Reason being with suicide only the chains pulling to the rear will secure the coil initially during a hard braking event. You lose about half until the coil snaps the rear chains. With shotgun all the chains secure the coil in a hard braking situation.

If you use more chains than the bare minimum it's not an issue.

I thought the straps over the top were to prevent the coil from unwinding if the strapping breaks.

Looks like the western express got whacked by an under secured load.
That is why I dobble up on the chains and binders for coiles.
ya never take any chances with any rolling.
It should of been left flat on the deck if it was only 8 feet across. -

SheepDog Thanks this. -
Lol yep. with free a/c abs heat too

If the strapping breaks, the coil won't unwind until it gets picked up. If the bands somehow do break, they'll put new ones on before they pick it up, or wish they did.

if that straping breaks, a simple strap wont stop that mofo from unwinding
SheepDog Thanks this.
