What kind if break in do you do when you installed the bw turbo?
-
No break in needed. Just run it. Just like replacing a turbo on any other engine. Just plug and play. The true way to get the best effect though, is also making sure you have a high flowing exhaust to compliment it. I even put a turbo blanket on my BW. 287,000 miles on it and it is a champ.
-
The only thing I did that was important was to put oil in the input, on top before startup. So it's not starting the first time with no oil.
-
Not sure it is that critical. Oil will be flowing thru there within seconds and there is no stress being applied to the turbo at startup.
-
Ya there should probably be some sort of assembly lube I would assume. I have 2 - 5" stacks with super high flow mufflers lol. Only way I'll get more airflow is a ceramic coated manifold. How do you like the turbo blanket? What affect does it have? Are they pricey ? And are the turbo specific?
-
There is no assembly lube for a new turbo, they NEED to be pre-lubed with engine oil before startup. Even at idle the impeller spins very fast and WILL cause bearing and shaft damage if they are not lubed, thus greatly shortening the life of the turbo.rollin coal Thanks this.

Is disconnect ECM an cranking over motor recommended or dump oil in inlet before connecting? Maybe both for time it takes to be safe.
-
The instructions that came with my turbo said to add oil to inlet oil line opening.
I did the pp manifold at the same time too. A blanket and a wrap.
