Hi all, its time for me to get my new med card. Problem is that I just heriated a disk and sure as heck doubt i can pass. Can i just go to DMV (illinois)and reclass then when better reclass again without penalty of losing or retaking cdl. Seems like a dumb question to even ask but when dealing with the goverment who knows Thanks
Renew my dot med

Always a fun time when you have to do this. Especially when your my age.

Ask Il. DMV. Some states your CDL goes "not valid" while your medical card is expired, then goes back on line when you renew. As long as it's not expired for more than 1 year.

if you are not drivning now. just claim exempt for now, then get dot physical and claim non exempt when you go back to work, that way ur cdl stays valid

Thats what I thought but with DMV who knows how they think. Thanks

If you get pulled over with expired/no med card, your truck will be towed.

I'm not driving, I can barely walk. I'll just go to DMV and file exempt till I can work again. I dont wish this pain on anyone , it sucks. Im in good shape not overweight just got a bad disc now

Doesn't the medical card need to be current, registered with the state DMV, and valid in order for the CDL to be valid?

I just had disc surgery back in April and I wished that " pain " on everybody, lol I have had 2 surgeries 1987 and 2014 and hope I never have to go through it again.
Sometime you can just rest and maybe do a little walking and stretching and work it back in but the last time my disc was pressed hard up against a nerve and I couldn't even stand let alone walk.
I feel your pain , hope all is well soon.baseballcoach Thanks this.
